Overall I agree and like our offense. My only complaint is that we seem to throw deep or it is a short throw but don't give big doses of intermediate throws. We dominate bad teams with it but do need to be more unpredictable against the better teams. We saw significant dropoffs vs CCU and Louisiana when the talent was fairly close. You can call the same play 50 times against ULM or Texas State and still should be able to win the game when you have superior athletes.appstatealum wrote: ↑Tue Dec 22, 2020 6:38 pmOverall, it’s been quality football discussions backed with facts from each side. ‘94 and I have had some good debates over the last few seasons and I always appreciate his take.
Having a more dynamic passing game would be great, but I would not expect it to change our Run/Pass mix if Cam and Co. continue to run like they have this year. What it does is give us an option if a team sells out to stop our rush game and in normal circumstances, it should keep more guys out of the box to allow our stable f back to run like we did on North Texas. I personally love watching the ground and pound game. It’s like golf, it’s safer to keep the ball on the ground whenever possible around the green.

Re: Decision Announcements
Congrats to Sherm and I know he has a great shot to get drafted. He will definitely make a team if he works hard enough. He edges out Jolly (barely) as the best corner we have had in a while and I expect Jolly to have a real good year shutting people down in 2021. Sherm is going to be a day 3 pick as long as he tests as people expect him to.
One reporter (whose name I will not call out) did say that "Absolutely the right thing to do. His NFL report came back that he couldn't do anything to help himself by coming back." and I can tell you 10000% that the NFL does not send paperwork that says that. Players are talking to agents who claim to get feedback from scouts (many actually do) and then they package what they hear and tell the player. Most agents don't want players to stay in school out of fear they blow up even more and may not have a shot at the player if they are not from a mega firm or a big name agent.

Couldn’t be happier for Sherm. NOBODY, works harder than him. Hate to lose him, but he’s got a very bright future ahead of him.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 23, 2020 2:21 pmCongrats to Sherm and I know he has a great shot to get drafted. Sherm was a BEAST all season. Will miss his leadership. Steven Jones looked good in Nickle/Dime packages. He could be our next shut down CB.

Agree here. I think we have capable players ready to play at an All-SBC level so the secondary will still be strong while he is making a NFL paycheck.appstate24 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 23, 2020 2:24 pmCouldn’t be happier for Sherm. Re: Decision Announcements
Where Sherm and Jolly differ is that Sherm pushes the limit physically, has better technique to push the envelope between good coverage and pass interference. That's actually a good trait for the NFL and he'll need it. He has that extra "swagger" that a good corner needs.

Number 8 was the best cover corner we have ever had. Looking forward to the next one I can say that about. Best to you 8, your going to make your dream come true!!!!!

Re: Decision Announcements
I'm going to guess you are under 30 and never saw Matt Stevens play? Matt is the most talented cornerback we have ever had. Sherm is a great one for sure though. He may very well be the 2nd best CB in program history so far though.

Re: Decision Announcements
Agree 100% here. Where he lacks a little in size and is just big enough he is very physical and plays the ball so well. I think Jolly is really good and if he can play as physical as Sherm then he could very well be on that level overall. I know some media gave Jolly all the hype, and he is a very good player, Sherm has been our best CB each of the last two years. With that said, Jolly is probably one of the top 5 CBs to ever play in Boone. Both of them together make a great tandem.appstatealum wrote: ↑Wed Dec 23, 2020 5:36 pmWhere Sherm and Jolly differ is that Sherm pushes the limit physically, has better technique to push the envelope between good coverage and pass interference. Re: Decision Announcements
Stevens was a safety, one of the best, but I can’t recall a better cover corner than 8.

Re: Decision Announcements
I only remember him as a safety. He played while I was at App. Dont really remember him as a corner anyway, but he was still a beast.

Oh baby...
Whoever wins the QB job is going to have some ballers to throw to.

Re: Decision Announcements
I hope we can hold in to 1 more senior D lineman to hang on with meech. Even a depth player, because 5 of our 6 d lineman by playing time are seniors. If we do that I believe we can be very special next year.
Also is anyone in the know on specialists? Who is the projected place kicker? Any word on Subotsch staying as punter?
