You're looking at the wrong numbers. 45 pass attempts to 38 rush attempts. Pretty balanced by today's era standards. The fact that the yardage favored the pass by about 75% says more about the skill of the WRs and Ohio States inability to adjust.

You're looking at the wrong numbers. 45 pass attempts to 38 rush attempts. Pretty balanced by today's era standards. The fact that the yardage favored the pass by about 75% says more about the skill of the WRs and Ohio States inability to adjust.

I think you're both right. Alabama does have a good balance of passing and rushing attempts - for the season they were right around the middle in % of plays that were passes (48%, ranked 58th nationally). In the last three games, that went up to almost 55%.

But pass plays are almost always going to average more yardage than running plays. So if your play calling is 50/50, you're probably going to have more passing yards than rushing yards.

Noted that as well, wish to see more of that. Nothing like a WR or Back signaling first down with the chop down 3 scores or a DB waving the finger while being toasted during a game.

I'm no defensive coordinator but I didn't see the wisdom in the 4-4 defense OSU ran part of last night. Their LB's were getting eaten alive by the Bama WR's; it was painfully evident on the one TD pass to Smith where the LB had no chance of running with him. Appeared they sold out to stop the run, and they did slow it down but they just put RB Harris and the WR's in space and got them the ball. Their yards after the catch had to be huge! Bama offense was a thing of beauty to watch and I hope our coaches will watch that tape over and over with the WR's and RB's that App has coming back.

Part of that appeared to be by design and part necessity. They were down some key guys on the DL so they needed to provide some support to the front end. Secondly, you have to sometimes pick your poison. OSU schemed to stop the run. They didn’t do a bad job but they got killed through the air.
