2021 football wish list
Just a few things I want to see in 2021
A lot more discipline.... way too many penalties in 20
The D making a point of taking the ball away... it happened to us in 20
A bunch of time and effort put into the strength and conditioning program.....we got pushed around in 20 and teams saw that and made a point of trying to physically intimidate us
All of our backs catching pass after pass after pass this spring and then again during the season....Harrington is awesome in space and Noel will be too....Peoples one on one in space....first guy isn’t bringing him down

Re: 2021 football wish list
An offensive coordinator that has a feel for the game and calls appropriate plays for our talent and makes halftime adjustments. I really don't think that is too much to ask for.

Re: 2021 football wish list
I agree. Let’s see how we look after a full offseason and pre season before making that determination.

Re: 2021 football wish list
My 2021 wish list starts and ends with being able to attend an actual game in a crowded KBS.

Re: 2021 football wish list
This is likely to be unpopular here, but I gotta say it. For 2021 and beyond, I want ... less chippyness!
We are 107th out of 127 teams in the country in penalty yards. From the day coach Clark stepped on campus, he said he wanted athletes who possessed a certain "nastiness." That's OK, in my book. Channeled in the right direction, that can be a good thing. Sometimes a great thing. But what we saw throughout the season and especially on Monday crossed that line between rugged, hard-nosed play to something far less sporting. The coaches clearly tried to put a lid on it. During the bowl game, coach Clark angrily dressed down one of our linemen whose flagrant penalty cost the team a long touchdown. Unfortunately, the taunting, unnecessary penalties, finger wagging and unsportsmanlike conduct penalties continued against a clearly overmatched opponent. It wasn't a good look for us.
We have numerous players -- guys like D'Marco Jackson, Ryan Neuzil and Camerun Peoples -- who compete at the highest level without showboating. We could all take cues from them.
For next year and beyond, I'm hoping we still play with a chip on our shoulders but leave the chippyness back in 2020.

Literally been happening since Jerry Moore. In fact I believe Parker Collins was praised for that style youre talking about. I'm not trying to disagree with you but I wish more people on this board would stop trying to lay this at Clark's doorstep when it clearly predates his return to the Mountain.AppGrad78 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 25, 2020 3:31 pmThis is likely to be unpopular here, but I gotta say it. I get it. Playing nasty is good, but sometimes, hold back a bit. No hitting players obviously going out of bounds for 15 yrd per foul penalty. No running into kicker or punter penalties, EVER. It's not worth rushing the punter for a once a season block, but constantly run the risk of hitting the punter or kicker, who will then act like he was shot

Re: 2021 football wish list
I know it’s been happening for a while, but I felt that the trash talking and after the play BS was at higher level this year too. I noticed it some near the end of Moore’s career, but not as much when I was a student in the 90s. I’ve viewed replays of several games from last year (just watched the SC game again) and we had a more business like attitude, as well as more confidence and crispness. We’ve had individual players with some of the issues mentioned, but it seems that there was just a different overall attitude change this year. I suppose we can chalk it up to another 2020 anomaly as well...I hope.NavyApp wrote: ↑Fri Dec 25, 2020 3:38 pmLiterally been happening since Jerry Moore. And as we saw in the bowl game from Hodges, no finishing your block till the whistle blows. Thats just too rough for North Texas. Sarcasm intended.yosef95 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 25, 2020 3:44 pmI get it. Re: 2021 football wish list
I get this. And to piggyback on what I believe to be the posters intent. While the Parker Collins blocking penalty on the first series against Tennessee hurt us in the short term, it set the tone for the entire game.AppDub wrote: ↑Fri Dec 25, 2020 4:26 pmAnd as we saw in the bowl game from Hodges, no finishing your block till the whistle blows. Re: 2021 football wish list
When you are winning, penalties are due to aggressiveness. When you aren't winning, they are due to a lack of discipline.
