First Game: East Carolina

Unread post by Neer86 » Mon Jan 25, 2021 4:29 pm

Their 247 fan forum just posted all their opponents for the coming season with a brief preview of the series. If you haven't followed the Pirates, the once proud program has fallen on tough times, and the school was facing administration troubles (I don't know the situation) and financial problems even before the pandemic caused so much turmoil to college athletics.

Here's what they said about us

Series Results: Appalachian State leads the all-time series, 19-12.

First Meeting: 1932

Last Meeting: 2012

"The Pirates and Mountaineers will do battle on a Thursday night to open the 2021 season in Charlotte inside Bank of America Stadium as the two sides meet as FBS opponents for the first time. ECU and Appalachian State have met 31 times all-time, with most of those meetings coming in the 1930s, 1950s and 1970s. The two sides didn't meet from 1979 until 2009 when they renewed their rivalry in Greenville. The Mountaineers dominated the series early, but ECU has won the last six meetings dating back to 1976. The Mountaineers just moved up to the FBS level a few years ago and have experienced tremendous success as a program ever since. The 2021 season will be the first time a game in the series has been played in Charlotte."

Super excited for this one. Last time we played (besides the fact it felt like it was 120 degrees in that stadium thanks to ole ESPN giving us a noon game time in Greenville) it felt like we were still the little brother. Now, hopefully the tables have turned. ECU had a LOT of close games last year, we better come out firing. I'd imagine we're going to be about 3.5 point favorites.

I am so excited for this game. I know its not what we hoped it would be but this type of game in Charlotte is exactly they type of game we were hoping for when we moved up to FBS.

Really sucks it's Thursday night instead of Saturday but it's gonna be awesome. It'll be the second time I'll see them play in an NFL venue...CAN'T WAIT!!!

Mike Houston's teams historically make a huge jump in year 3. ECU played a lot of good teams close this past season. They'll have a senior QB who is a local kid and loves ECU. They will pull out all of the tricks to win this one.

We must be at the top of our game and play App State football!

Here's praying and fingers crossed that the v. will allow us to have a full, safe unencumbered season, with a packed KBS so we can whip some Pirates. Can't wait.

You mean a packed Bank of America stadium (wearing the black & gold) so we can whip some Pirates...right?

Yep. Just a cerebral flatulence moment.
However, i don't believe BofA will be packed. When do we play the Pyrites in KBS? Google sux.

No worries and I agree it won't be packed but hopefully our Charlotte Meck crowd (among others) will show up loud and proud. We get ECU at KBS in 2023.

With this game at BoA Stadium, isn't that almost as good as a home game for App?

Reminder that for revenue purposes this is a HOME game for App as the majority of the proceeds come back to Boone.

We don't have a guarantee money game this year so this is our best opportunity to support the athletic department outside of donations to the Yosef Club.

Bring your friends, first game post-vaccine let's sale every ticket they allow.

Google sux...ha! Have you tried reinserting the internets?

Me typing into google: "when does ECU play at App State in Boone?"
Google: "East Carolina went 4-8 in 2019 under first-year coach Mike Houston. App State will also face ECU in Greenville in September 2024, play host to the Pirates in Boone in September 2025 and return to Greenville in September 2026."

I dunno. I get oodles of hits in which i have to wade through to pick out what little pertinent info i can glean, no matter how i phrase the query. I’m sure it’s just me and something i’m doing wrong. But still. Duckduckgo works pbetter but it’s so darn slow. It’s just easier to query on here. Heck most often it’s more reliable in here since many already know the answer from their memory.

Isn't the answer 2023 in Boone, not this googleygook posted above?

That's one of the challenges with any browser searches. If it takes you to an article / announcement, that information could easily be stale since schedules get updated and adjusted regularly. For certain queries, it best to just go straight to a reliable source with vetted current data, like FBSchedules.com or some other site.

I just booked a room at the Residence Inn Charlotte Uptown which according to the website is .2 miles from the stadium. I stay exclusively at Marriott properties and there are a number of them within a mile of the Stadium. Wanted to book before the pricing when up or before they wouldn't book for free with Marriott points...which are never accepted during football weekends at the properties near App.
