Notre Dame Transfer Jahmir Smith

Have not seen anyone talking about this transfer. I heard about this today. Anybody got any insight into his play or see him play in High School? I think he is from Lee County. Can't believe we have risen to the point that we are getting transfers from Notre Dame, Stanford, and Duke.
Never can have enough quality running backs. Sounds like he runs low and hard. Excited to see how he figures into the plans once pre-season practice starts.

How many RB injuries have we suffered over the last few season, nice addition to depth in my opinion. He has to be ok if ND wanted him.

Glad to have him join the program. We could use tough RB and glad he has NC ties. Could you imagine 10 yrs ago that App would get a Duke/Clemson transfer, a Stanford transfer, and a Notre Dame transfer. I remember former ecu coach Logan in sports radio when App moved up, saying how they would get destroyed on the D! level. Umm, no

They know. We've put a lot of players in the pros in recent years. If you can't get playing time at your P5 because you were recruited over, you still have a chance. Come to App, and you'll get a real chance to compete.
Our rep continues to grow, and we'll be bringing in more of these type of players. And probably recruiting more of them as well.

I also wonder if maybe the injury to Harrington will keep him out of the fall and we are going to lose Raykwon Anderson after all. If those two things are true then that could make it appealing. As long as we stay healthy, I feel good about Peoples, Noel, and Smith though. That is a talented trio.

Anderson is gone again.

Disappointing news about Anderson. As for Harrington, he tore his ACL midway through the season, so I don't think it's any big secret that his availability for this year is in doubt.
We have a good top three, maybe four with Castle. Hopefully enough, but I do wonder if we move someone else to RB for depth.

Anderson is gone again.
Is he in the portal yet or do we expect him to do that?
Does this mean we would keep Castle at RB and possibly go after someone in the portal now?

Gone means gone. Yes. Doubtful.

Castle was already staying at RB as far as I know.

I could see Goodman getting some looks out of the backfield. Kid is too talented to keep him off the field.

Makes you wonder if Eli didn't understand some players aren't meant to be in Boone.
App is a place that you love or hate, with little in between.
Maybe I'm reading more into it than is there though.

I think it was more to do with the time frame, as it related to the upcoming early signing period and getting the best players available.

I hate to see Raykwon leaving App. He's definitely a talented athlete. I hope he lands somewhere where he can prosper and use those skills....just not at another SBC program.

The hell of the transfer portal is from what I hear that there are more than 2x the number that want to transfer as there are spots. Good luck to those that enter the portal.

I think you're reading incorrectly. We have the third lowest transfer rate of any school in the UNC system (after UNC and NCSU), the third highest retention rate, the third highest graduation rate and don't seem to have any more transfers in football than other schools either. With all the coaching turnover we've had the last couple years, I'm shocked we didn't have more.

This is not related to athletes but my wife is a high school teacher, and not an App grad. She writes tons of college recommendations for kids and she keeps in touch with many of them post high school graduation.
She has noticed over the years (and this is anecdotal of course) that her kids that go to App, LOVE IT and stay, whereas those that go elsewhere are a mixed bag with many transferring after a year or two. Not saying App's for everybody but it's hard not to fall in love with the place...she hasn't had one kid transfer out of App but has had them transfer to App from other schools with positive results.
She wishes she had gone to school there after getting to know the place because of me.

So is Smith good? Did he do anything at ND? Nobody really knows how he will pan out. It’s great that our program is really at a P5 level as far as talent goes. I firmly believe that if you took the top 60 or so FBS programs and redid, say 6 conferences of 10 teams each App makes the cut while many existing P5’s drop out. That being said it’s also nice that the knowledgeable fans don’t go Gaga over a kid transferring in from an elite P5 and just pencil him in as a starter.
I really am starting to hate the portal as it seems like a dark hole for many kids. I wonder how many kids who transfer end up really impacting the team they end up with? I support allowing kids to immediately transfer in cases where the head coach bails on his contract but when a player wants to leave because he isn’t getting enough PT that’s a tough one. Overall though I fall back on an expression my wife uses- “go be you boo”.
