QB is the most important thing. If we can get a good one going, and protect him with an oline that will have to be next man up, it could be a special season.

Good news, we have a new OC, and hopefully he can design an offense that will get the ball out of the QB's hands quickly, taking pressure off his protection. We have enough weapons around him to get it done.

Does anyone know how Miami is supposed to be next year? That would be a very tough win either way.

One good thing for '22. As noted above, we've got very good recruiting classes on campus, and this year should add another one. Giving these guys a year to get college strong and learn the game will make them more ready to step in next year. Hopefully, we get some big leads in a lot of games (unlike last year) and get these guys some game time to learn.

We need our coaching staff to take a step as well. If they do, our continued growth in the national spotlight will lead to even better recruiting. The quality of our transfers this year shows our growth here.
Miami has a lot of players coming back for 2021. They lost some key players, but they have several P5 grad transfers coming to town. They will still be good.
they also signed a DL and safety who are 5 star ranked..https://247sports.com/college/miami/Sea ... l/Commits/
those 2 will see PT early

Any idea what the recruiting expectations are for 2022? How many spots are we recruiting for? According to 247Sports, we haven’t signed anyone yet and don’t have a “warm” prospect at this time. We seemed to get off to a faster start last year. Just wondering what the granting of an extra year last year means for the upcoming class.

Probably 15 guys. I think that you meant to say that we have no one committed. I generally wouldn’t see anyone committed this early. In the past, those first commitments typically don’t end up signing. We have about 35 offers out but I would speculate that with such a small class, they will be deliberate in their decision to accept commitments.

I think it comes down to discipline. We had a great team this year, should have been better than the year before but I don't think our discipline was there. We had way too many dumb penalties, fumbles, interceptions and whatnot to win like we did the previous year. Some of that might have been the weird year that was 2020, but I hold the coaching staff responsible for a lot of that. If we can get penalties ironed out then I definitely think we could have our best year yet.

I'd like to see the stats on Noah's penalties last season. It seemed like he got some very untimely ones during important games that really should not have come from a player with his experience. There's a huge difference between "playing nasty" and being reckless.

When a podcast-led initiative is the most outreach the Yosef Club does to get small-scale regular donations, that's a problem.

I've hammered the "getting value back" argument for Yosef Club for years, but the biggest response I get back is "it's not about getting anything back, it's about providing opportunities for student-athletes to get an education" or some philanthropic argument like that.

While that's great and rallies the base you already have, I feel like that's a burying-your-head-in-the-sand argument and in the end, donors want a ROI, no matter how small or big. Especially when you're trying to reach new donors.

The current restruturing of Yosef Club/Mountaineer Athletic Fund to me, seems like a concentrated effort to get more donations with commas in the amount and corporate donors. The smaller donors need to be treated with care as well, because they fill up the stadium and make it look good on TV. No one ever watched a college football game and commented on how the suites and private seating looks full.
Clemson did wonders for years with the small donors...IPTAY or whatever it was...and they had many non-graduates contributing as well. It is an approach worth including among the target donors. Offering small incentive items such as a bumper sticker for a $25 donation, a hat or other item for $100 plus, etc. might be worth trying. I understand that we should give because we want to help Athletics from a philosophical standpoint, but an incentive approach may be an option worth testing. If the end result is an increase in funding and more people participating, we have our answer.

The last 3 columns show almost double of the previous year .... cost us atleast 2 games.
Discipline and focus cost us.
If we improve, we win

Sure does. Penalties were slightly up by .6 per game over 2019 and not too far out of line with the FBS trend. As Bobby Bowden once pointed out, when you are winning, penalties are due to aggressiveness. When you are losing, they are a discipline issue. The difference in penalties can also be attributed to a few factors.

Small donors turn into large donors. Need to play the long game better.

In case anyone's wondering...no more filling out that PDF form to donate to YC!

The new Mountaineer Athletic Fund website is now LIVE:

https://mountaineersathleticfund.com/

Easy access to donate to Yosef Club, MAF or whatever other athletics-related fundraiser you dig.

Also, I re-upped a couple weeks back and got a tax receipt from the Foundation within a week.

But I'm still waiting for my stuff from YC to arrive (decal, etc.). Not sure if it's due to them changing over systems or low staff or COVID or Men's BBall or the Soviets or what?
