Jee-SUS! Talk about a lack of respect for what we have accomplished over many years as a program! Meanwhile The Chickens put together ONE good season in their entire existence and these clowns fall all over themselves anointing them God’s gift to football.

#24, that would be a disappointing season. I’d say the SBC as whole got disrespected.

Screw those guys, no way multiple MAC and CUSA teams will be better than Ark State or Ga Southern this season, much less ULL, CCU, or our Mountaineers. Heck, I'd like Ga State's chances to compete for the MAC or CUSA title.

Re: G5 Preseason Top 25
Definitely disrespect. I have seen a copy of Phil Steele and he seems to have the SBC with the most respect of anyone and the most believe gaps. I won't say exactly where but I'm told that he has Louisiana, Coastal Carolina, and App State all in the top 35.ah59396 wrote: ↑Mon Jun 21, 2021 7:43 pmJoe Broback from Underdog Dynasty ranks his preseason G5 Top 25.

A lot of people think UAB will be even better than where this guy has them.
This is a fan who does not know much so I would not worry about it. For example, he has a video of Willis that said QB1 lock? Willis is a mid round talent right now. He could rise but based on the official lists that NFL teams have been given he is more of a 4th or 5th round grade. Another example, he claims Jolly is a future draft pick like it is a lock he will be a pick and that is not true. He is considered a free agent heading into the season. In fact, colleges are given grades A, B, C, D, etc based on the talent caliber they have among seniors or recommended juniors that may declare early. NFL teams don't have any of our juniors on their official list and we are listed as a C school. A is for top 4 rounds, B is 7th round or above, and C school means you have priority free agents. Jackson is a higher rated prospect than Jolly.

Agree with you. I feel like we lose 2-3 games total this year but say we lose 3 I would still think we should be top 12-15 in the G5 unless those losses are to unranked teams or Louisiana and Coastal Carolina don't turn out to be anywhere near as good as expected.

Y’all want to see disrespect, listen to the underdog podcast ECU preview when they start discussing our game. No respect. Overall they’re just AAC and CUSA hacks.

ECUs fans are equally as confident. Boneyard Banter is convinced they are on their upswing and we are at the beginning of a large regression. They are expecting a fairly comfortable victory against us.
Granted, we didn’t beat a team with a pulse last year.

Re: G5 Preseason Top 25
Stolen from Yosef's Beard on Twitter but it explains CCU perfectly:
"You know how in NASCAR some nobody driver you’ve never heard of will occasionally win a race because there was a catastrophe that wiped out half the field? That’s Coastal. The problem is that now they think they’re the next Dale Earnhardt when they’re more of a Dick Trickle."
Well maybe not a Dick Trickle (he wasn't too bad) but you get the drift.
We don't slide at Appalachian State. It's a sign of weakness.

Re: G5 Preseason Top 25
the EZU game is the most important game next year OOC, maybe the most important game on the whole schedule. Losing to them sets back a lot of momentum we've gained in the state as the best G5. like everyone else, I hope we run up the score

Re: G5 Preseason Top 25
While we obviously had massive extenuating circumstances having to cancel all football for a week or 2 due to COVID, we absolutely could not have chosen a worse year to have a "down year." I say down year semi-sarcastically since we went 9-3 and had a decent chance to win all 3 of those losses.
The one year G5 gets some respect in the national conversation, the one year a certain conference peer decides to have a lights out season, the one year where every sports writer was forced to pay attention the "little guys" and we peter out.
I'm so excited for this revenge tour.

Re: G5 Preseason Top 25
Personally, I HATE these "G5 Top 25" rankings. The first and primary reason is that it presents us as a separate league. Yeah, I get it....the gap. The second reason is reflected in this poll: These writers seem to do VERY little actual research and don't really understand the landscape of the G5. This guy doesn't even mention the return of Corey Sutton from two years ago. He basically looked at the roster change and said, yep...they're losing their QB so that will drop them back some more from last year.
I do hope this past season puts the chip back on the shoulders of our team. I can't wait for this season to start!

Re: G5 Preseason Top 25
It is completely unrealistic for anyone that has ever watched a college football game and has even the remotest knowledge of App State to believe that there are 23 G5 teams better than App State. It is absurd.

Re: G5 Preseason Top 25
I see your point, but I disagree with the conclusion that we "couldn't have chosen a worse year." Most of college football is viewing 2020 with an asterisk. It will haunt us for a few more weeks but once 2021 really gets going, we have the ability to make last year a distant memory. This will be correctable IF we go out there and get the job done. We control our own destiny, but we absolutely can't stumble this season.ArmantiWaterSafety wrote: ↑Tue Jun 22, 2021 9:35 amWhile we obviously had massive extenuating circumstances having to cancel all football for a week or 2 due to COVID, we absolutely could not have chosen a worse year to have a "down year." Re: G5 Preseason Top 25
This! It is very similar to when Arena football started. I remember a local sports talk radio personality in Tampa, with extensive knowledge of the game and teams, would clean up in Vegas on Arena football. He was asked by local Vegas handicappers why he was so good at picking winners. His response to them was, “it isn’t what I know, it’s what you don’t know when handicapping these games.”Yosef84 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 22, 2021 9:44 amPersonally, I HATE these "G5 Top 25" rankings. Also just thinking out loud, Boise St lost their head coach to Auburn and this guy seems to think they are going to, not only not miss beat but get better this year vs last year. I recall we were told App will lose a step both times the last two years during a coaching change. Hum? scrathing my head on that one.

Re: G5 Preseason Top 25
People that make national polls like this don’t watch every App game. They may catch a nationally broadcast game or two at best. Yes, we won our Monday 11am bowl game against a mediocre and depleted North Texas. But we also lost all our meaningful games on national TV too.
CBS Marshall - Loss
ESPN #15 Coastal - Loss
ESPN #20 Louisiana - Loss
No division title. No conference title. I can’t really blame national pundits for questioning us when we only beat two teams with a winning record last season (Ga State and Ga Southern).
Sucks, but I get it.
