Re: Depth Chart
Weird to think how good we should be at WR when Virgil is 4th WR.
Castle seems to be ahead of Smith, though looks like Castle may be a short yardage back one would think.

Re: Depth Chart
What happened to Jacoby Pinckney? Haven't heard anything out of camp about him and no sign of him on the depth chart. I know plenty were excited about him when he transferred in including me.

Re: Depth Chart
What about Stu Head? Even with Kaiden out, he’s nowhere to be seen. Kind of makes me feel good that 3 of our P5 transfers don’t seem to be urgent needs! That’s not a P5 jab, just happy to see that much depth with what we already had…

Re: Depth Chart
I was also excited given he was a highly rated HS player (4*). Also curious about Stu Head.

Re: Depth Chart
I think for the most part the transfers (except Brice) will add to pour depth. I'll be surprised if we don't see some packages utilizing some of their skills throughout the season. I think Head in particular, has some size and smarts unless '94 knows something about him. I also think we favor speed (over size) at safety but you think you might see him OLB. Virgil will get his reps.

Re: Depth Chart
I know this is weird but I'm really excited about our guards(Daley and Helms). I really want to see them abuse some guys in the run game!

Re: Depth Chart
Others beat me to it with the questions about Pinkney's absence at WR. I was surprised he isn't on the chart. I'm hoping that's just a matter of too much talent to get it all on the page.
Based on the comments out of camp, I thought TD Roof had risen to a starting role also, but I see him at backup. Again, I expect to see him getting plenty of action. It's good to see guys competing at a high level!

Re: Depth Chart
Sounds like Pinckney may not be all the way back to 100% from his knee injury. Not just the knee itself but getting back into football shape, going full-speed, etc.

Lot of talent, depth and experience at those spots.

Re: Depth Chart
Completely valid comment. I had already done exactly that and I agree. I guess I bought into some coach speak during the post workout interviews and didn't think through it. I am glad to see Roof playing well though and hope he has a great year! The D usually rotates quite a bit so he should get plenty of playing time.EastHallApp wrote: ↑Mon Aug 30, 2021 12:52 pmRe: Roof, look at that starting four at LB and ask yourself which one you'd demote in order to start him.Yosef84 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 30, 2021 12:37 pmOthers beat me to it with the questions about Pinkney's absence at WR. I think we're going to see a lot more rotation at WR and LB this year than in years previous.Yosef84 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 30, 2021 1:07 pmCompletely valid comment. Re: Depth Chart
When I say this I don’t any way mean to disparage the P5 transfers one bit and I hope they are good enough to contribute this year but I firmly believe that we are a legit top 35 (at least) program with legit talent and depth. I really think that after the top level P5 guys at the top programs the remaining guys at the second tier P5’s and the top tier G5’s are about the same.
A 6’3” safety at Stanford might be just as good (or maybe not as good) as a 6’ safety at App. We clearly have guys who could easily play at a number of P5 schools and a whole bunch of guys on several P5 rosters would not sniff the field for App. Admittedly it’s cool to see a Stanford and ND transfer added to our roster but we are pretty damn good up in Boone.

Re: Depth Chart
If Pinkney is still recovering from injury, hope he can redshirt... given we are loaded at WR, be nice to have 3 more years after this year

Re: Depth Chart
Of course, not being in camp we don't know if its a matter of learning and adapting to a new system or if they are recovering from some injury. But, as others have said its great that we have that kind of depth.bigdaddyg wrote: ↑Mon Aug 30, 2021 1:38 pmWhen I say this I don’t any way mean to disparage the P5 transfers one bit and I hope they are good enough to contribute this year but I firmly believe that we are a legit top 35 (at least) program with legit talent and depth. Re: Depth Chart
I hope ECU OL are solid as 1) they face few D's in their conf like our and 2) it will help us get ready for UM and beyond. The better competition we play, the more we will improve. As the sign on our locker room exit door in HS used to say "Lord we do not pray for an easy task, we pray for the strength to meet the task"!
