Steven Jones named National Defensive Player of the Week- Nov 7

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
STEVEN JONES, JR., APPALACHIAN STATE Senior, Defensive Back, Rockingham, NC/Richmond Senior
Steven Jones, Jr. tied a school record with three interceptions, and ran back two of them for touchdowns (47 and 34 yards) as Appalachian State improved to 7-2 (4-1 in Sun Belt Conference) with a 48-14 victory over Arkansas State.
Notes: Steven Jones, Jr. is the first Appalachian State player to earn Walter Camp National FBS Player of Week honors.

The last two games alone have probably shot him from 3rd team All-SBC to a lock for 1st team honors. Would like to see him get 2-3 more picks in the regular season because I'm sure that would put him on some All-America teams.

Actually, Georgia Southern is averaging 23.4 passes per game. Surprised me too.

I was about to say GSU is throwing the ball a little more so he could get one against them. Usually 7-8 picks is an automatic All-America honor and for a guy who had to sit and wait his turn he sure has earned it. Jones has worked hard and been an underrated player for us.

You would think they would stop. Jones is better than Duck by a little bit. We have been fortunate to get better and better corners gradually. I just hope at least one of our two starting corners comes back. Both can and, if so, should be the best CB duo in the SBC for 2022.
