Someone has a sense of humor.

Kyle Bonagura makes this bolder than bold bowl projection.

Union Home Mortgage Gasparilla Bowl
Raymond James Stadium (Tampa, Florida)
7 p.m. on ESPN and the ESPN App
Bonagura: Missouri vs. Appalachian State

It would be awesome but Mizzou has to win 1 to be eligible. They have UF and Ark. left. Both winnable but not at all guaranteed.

As I mentioned on another thread, Drink knows WAY too much about App's schemes. Not sure I'd want to see him across the field from us in a bowl game.

Reference: Bill Callahan coaching against Gruden in Super Bowl 37. It was like Chuckie had telepathy that night.

It would take a huge number of occurrences for this to happen. There’s no current bowl tie ins that match SEC and Sun Belt teams, so there’d have to be too few Belt teams and too many SEC teams for the allocated bowls between each conference. Frankly I don’t think it would happen.

Drink knew the sit on the lead don’t throw the ball deep scheme. He didn’t know any play action with a throw to a tight end scheme. Who called plays when he was the coach? Bring it

He knew 13-1. Best record we have ever had since moving up.

App offense ranked 20th in YPG
Also 19th in PPG

App defense ranked 40th in YPG

We have the most balanced offense that I can recall. Drink had an incredible roster, beat 2 P5’s (tried really hard to lose to SC) so he gets mucho credit for a great job but I seriously doubt his knowledge of our “scheme” would be any issue if we happen to meet- which ain’t gonna happen.

Don't we similarly know his scheme and tendencies?

He had more talent than this Mizz team too.

And we probably currently have more talent his current team. I hope we play them. Great for our fans anyway

This projection has APP playing in the Cure Bowl on December 17th against Liberty which is a -4 point favorite over ULL this Saturday, and however a loser to ULM earlier this season for a "Say What?"

Now that conferences are settling into better footprints I’d love to see bowl tie ins reflect that. For example: SB east champion vs SEC east #3 unless our champ was headed to the NY6. Based on current standings that would be App vs Tennessee. In the west that would be Louisiana vs Texas A&M. They need to regionalize these bowl tie ins. Bowl attendance is atrocious for the most part.

Drink does some good things but he is nowhere near perfect or great. For a QB guru that people say he is I would argue that his evaluation of QB HS prospects was awful at App. He turned down McCall or DBG and took Shuler's son hyping him as a future starter.

You are right about his record but we had a stud team and you could argue that we should have been 14-0 with more convincing wins over UNC and SC. His "love week" thing probably cost us Georgia Southern and let's be real that we got conservative and basically just played to drain the clock and get out when we got big leads on SC and UNC instead of trying to expand the lead.

If Drink is so good then why does Missouri look worse in his 2nd year than they were when he took over? Missouri barely beat an awful South Carolina team and they are getting pounded by everyone else but Vandy in the SEC. I really believe that Napier or Chadwell would have gone undefeated with our 2019 team.

We had the softest P5 schedule I can remember and lost to a conference team. I was never impressed with him. I agree with a more talented coach we could have gone undefeated.

Exactly. We should have beat South Carolina by 20+ and UNC by 10-14. Drink impressed me in some ways but he is not the guru people think. His bad misses on QBs, wrong approach to GSU, and him getting destroyed by average SEC teams shows me his team is no better than it was when he got there. He is an average coach and no reason to be thoroughly impressed with him. I wish him luck at Missouri because he will need it. His QB evaluation skills leave a lot to be desired. This man thought McCall was not good enough to be a backup at App and yet he is the best QB to ever to play in the Sun Belt. Shows you how bad this guru's eye truly is.

If you listen to some of the guys who played for him they have a completely different take. I recall being impressed with him during that season and the recounts from the players on the podcasts were all good. Hard for me to say now that we were wrong 2 years ago when he was a great coach. I still pull for him to do well.

But, we beat the brakes off Mizzou if we get them in a bowl.

Our players take the high road and won't say bad things publicly. There are indeed some good things about Drink and he is gone so there is no reason to bash him.

We could have gone 10-4 if not for the defense and special teams making huge plays against SC, UNC, and UL. I think our defensive staff was the biggest reason for us not losing 3-4 games. Drink's bad misses at QB with him not thinking McCall could play show me he is just not the guru some say he is.

I do wish him luck at Missouri. I know his big ego has rubbed some wrong out there and they are certainly not better since he got there. They are getting destroyed by teams who have a pulse.

Privately they speak highly of him as well and yes, there's certainly no reason to bash him. He did a good job by us. But I'd still like a shot at them. I like our chances. ;)
