Week 11 or 12 rankings???
First off I like being dissed....makes for carrying a bigger chip. But....with that said, my dog is sliden a b....n on this week's polling. Leading up to this point fair to say we were not worthy.....anyway I don't care just go 1-0.
What's up with the AP release today and the Coaches dissed us with more votes to those sand fleas in the swamp back waters of Myrtle Beach again?

Go 1-0 every week and the rankings will take care of themselves.

Thanks for posting this. In my opinion this is possibly the best method of ranking teams. As much as I hate seeing us at 40 it’s probably pretty accurate. At 40 we are in the top 1/3 of teams. After we win the last 3 we will climb some and if Miami, Marshall and ECU win a few more we creep up even more. Who knows how this will shake out but if we run out 3 more wins plus the bowl victory we should approach 25ish or better. Coaches poll is pointless, AP is popularity at best and the CFP after about the 10th spot is a product of very little research. This method of ranking allows a team with a difficult schedule to still be higher even with losses. Basically had we beaten either La or Miami we are probably about 5 spots higher right now at least.Black Saturday wrote: ↑Mon Nov 15, 2021 11:04 amSAGARIN APP #40

Theres only 3 G5 teams that are ahead of APP. I agree though that's fairly accurate in the ranking, everything will play out soon there could be 4 games left.bigdaddyg wrote: ↑Mon Nov 15, 2021 11:40 amThanks for posting this. I agree with you guys on this. I have thought we are a 35-40 type team so far. It is pretty much guaranteed that we finish ranked if we win out so no reason to worry about it. If we lose just 1 more game then we don't deserve to be ranked so we truly control our own destiny as far as being "popular".bigdaddyg wrote: ↑Mon Nov 15, 2021 11:40 amThanks for posting this. If we win out then we will have finished ranked or receiving votes for 5 straight years. That is consistency and something that very few G5 teams can claim.

Across 3 coaching changes and a pandemic in that time.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 15, 2021 1:02 pmI agree with you guys on this. I have thought we are a 35-40 type team so far. Re: Week 11 or 12 rankings???
As far as our annual preseason and early season CFB playoff talk and NY6 until reality sets in after we drop one to an FBS and maybe a game we shouldn't CFB playoff talk and NY6 is just that. We are a perennial top 25-40 program. Prime example is Cincinnati being snubbed so far this year, they've done as good as a G5 can do. The only way we are going to break through is landing 4-star players (Brice being the only one and I know we have some lesser stars that have developed into 4 star performers, but we need a handful on each side of the ball) and raising our overall talent level. We've built a winning tradition and culture, atmosphere, facilities. Maybe like Bull Durham, build it, and they will come.VNova wrote: ↑Mon Nov 15, 2021 1:42 pmAcross 3 coaching changes and a pandemic in that time.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 15, 2021 1:02 pmI agree with you guys on this. Re: Week 11 or 12 rankings???
It does help with marketing for sure and gets people's attention. I think everyone recognizes it helps with that but rankings take care of themselves if you keep winning. For example, people don't get hung up on margin of victory on here or in general but the margin of victory helps rankings. It is why Coastal Carolina was ranked so high despite playing nobody so if we beat Troy by say 52-10 or 42-0 type score then that would open enough eyes we might sneak in. Another reason why we need to pull for CCU and UL to win because having wins against good teams or beating the crap out of people is key for a G5 to get the ranking that you want.CornCobPipes wrote: ↑Mon Nov 15, 2021 8:09 pmI guess the only reason I like being ranked = RECRUITING.

Re: Week 11 or 12 rankings???
Just took a minute to compare the Sagarin and CFP rankings from last week. Obviously Ga and Alabama are 1-2. Interesting that they had Oregon at 3 while Oklahoma State is rated higher. Some teams fall fairly close in both polls. I guess the committee feels like Oregon’s win over OSU trumps a bad loss to Stanford.

I pull for our league but I get we have fans who want them to lose badly because of what happened in 2020.
I wonder though if they step back and become a normal 5-9 win team while App, JMU, Louisiana, and Marshall have the most overall success in the league within 3-5 years from now.

What helped Coastal in the rankings this year was: They started the year ranked. Teams ranked above them lost, while they put together a win streak.
We are not going to sneak in by trouncing Troy. A potential victory over Louisiana coupled with losses by current teams in the bottom half of the Top 25 is our ticket to being ranked.

Re: Week 11 or 12 rankings???
Coastal was a nice Cinderella story for the media. They're a small / new FBS program that nobody had heard of (outside of baseball) and they hit their peak during a period when people were stuck at home watching games. For whatever reason, they carried that popularity forward more than normal for G5 programs. My theory is that it is because of the super senior option. Nobody knew quite how to evaluate it, so they just plugged them in where they had been.
It will be very interesting to see if Coastal can sustain their program at a high level. We will see.

Re: Week 11 or 12 rankings???
Just scanned the conference standings and if I counted correctly only 25 teams have a shot to win 10 regular season games- and we are one of them. In my opinion this is a nice milestone that we have hit a few times over the years and is tough to achieve. Will be interesting to see how many pull it off.
