U Michigan memory today

Unread post by McLeansvilleAppFan » Mon Feb 14, 2022 7:24 pm

I was pumping gas at Costco a few hours ago and had the front pump. The man behind me noticed my large block A on the tailgate and mentioned the Michigan win. He is a Buckeye and was telling me about the roar of the crowd when the score was announced that day and how he purchased a bunch of App gear to sell the next week and it sold fast and easy. He lives on Roan Mountain in TN so is also near our campus.

Fun to share those stories 15 years later.

I think we played LR the next game and the bookstore was packed with foreigners from the Big Ten doing likewise.

My father-in-law and a couple nephews graduated from OSU, my wife's family is originally from Ohio. They all were watching the final seconds of the game while leaving “the Horseshoe”, it's true the crowd roar was deafening when Cory blocked that FG. My phone rang off the hook that day.

I had the misfortune of having to cover a middle school football jamboree (who schedules a jamboree on a college Saturday, much less a middle school). My son was coming home from college that day and asked that I record it so we could watch together. I did but listened to the first half on a cheap MP3 radio. Needless to say when I got home for the second half I said, "bump this, I'm watching it now!"
We don't slide at Appalachian State. It's a sign of weakness.

I have numerous folks in my church that have moved down here from Ohio...they all love Appalachian! Talk about the game all the time. Funny.

Also a couple of weeks ago after we beat Coastal in bball for the second, this beautiful young lady who is in her first year at Coastal came up to me after church and "they told me you went to App St?" I said yes. She looked at me with the funniest face and said "I just don't know how someone as sweet as you could go to App! They beat us in football and basketball!"
lol

Amazon delivery driver last week knocked on my door. We have a rock laser etched with the block A in our front yard. He told me a story about him and his buddies loading in a car and driving up to Boone to party after the game, they were students at A&T. He said it was the best all weekend party he ever went to lol. Great story.

My daughter was at that game. She played in the marching band. I loved hearing her stories about the game and the win.
