I would venture to say his point is we have the 6th fewest losses in CFB since 2015. Just a hunch though.

Really, that is what the post is about? It really isn't clear in the title. 🤣

The bad thing is we would have been in the top 5 had we beaten Miami.

All we have to do is lose 1 less game than UGA does this year and we are in the top 5. That shouldn't be too hard to do (sarcasm).

While these lists are always cool to see especially when App is mentioned with the big boys most of us take it with a grain of salt considering the schedules played by the different teams. That being said our consistency can't be questioned and if you pulled the same list/ranking of, say G5 (and even mid tier P5's) we would be the top. I think it's completely fair to include most P5 teams since the middling ones still usually play 3 to 4 winnable non-conference games and beat up on each other to approach 8ish wins per year (4-5 losses). All that being said we have been pretty damn good.

Look at this in the right light, this is advertisement for Appalachian. If I did not know anything about App I think a list like this would make me ask questions about that Black Mountaineer Block A.

Yeah, regardless of what any of us think about these lists they are great advertisements for us, especially when it's one of the big dogs like Fox Sports blasting it out.

What makes this even more impressive is the program's success in spite of the crazy amount of coaching turnover during that time.

Chemistry among members of coaching staff and between players and coaches is a seriously understated factor for success. It takes time to develop and with all that turnover, chemistry was uncertain.

So what made the difference between the App rising or falling while coaches came and went?

CULTURE.

Never has it made more of a difference than since 2018 when Satterfield left. No matter what happened with the coaching staff, our veteran players continued building the culture and imparting it to the younger guys. Without fail.

THAT is why we win. And THAT is why we are watched very closely by other programs, although they would never admit it.

I remember when Jacksonville State came to Boone to see how Appalachian was built to build their program. Look at them now they have moved up to FBS. Give JSU five years. Jacksonville State could be the Appalachian State of Conference USA...https://www.al.com/sports/2021/11/jacks ... -cusa.html Maybe JSU can balance out ECU joining the Sunbelt someday.

"Appalachian State of Conference USA"

Mentioning our name and CUSA in same context makes me nauseated. Truth is, I initially wanted us in there badly when we were considering the move up (before the 2013 exodus to AAC), even felt snubbed when some others got in there before us. However, at the time we finally moved up the SBC became the preferred path and it has worked out extremely well.

It is very clear in the title, but it's apples and oranges. We are ranked well in that category but it assumes a lot when we are in the midst of the heavy weights and their week to week schedule. The SunBelt has come a long way mainly because of our rise to prominence, but it in no way significantly compares to Big 10 or whatever it is called now or the SEC, etc...er even the ACC.
