My wife and I are just starting to plan our trip to Montana. The Goasu.com site states that arrangements can be made to stay at the DoubleTree by Hilton...short walk to the stadium...any other suggestions? Any suggestions on flights...can leave from GBoro or Charlotte??? Any suggestions on Yellowstone vs Glacier Parks...and lodging??? Thanks for any and all assistance.

A few friends of mine & I are planning on going to the game as well & we came up w/our own travel plan that turned out to be much cheaper than the one on GoASU.com

Check out flying into Bozeman and renting a car from there. Might be cheaper? Glacier Park is hands down more scenic than Yellowstone and closer to Missoula. Yellowstone does have more natural attractions like Old Faithful and such.

A Montana native suggested to me yesterday that we bring along passports to visit the Canadian side of Glacier.

Also, check into flying into Butte (sp) Montana....we paid $600 from Charlotte to Missoula and could have paid $300 flying into Butte. About 1 1/2 drive, but would have saved a lot of money (4 of us).

A quick spot Check for flying out of Charlotte the 30th and returning the 1st (1 adult passenger):

To Missoula ~ $600
To Butte ~ $505
To Bozeman ~ $586
To Spokane ~ $596

Butte to Missoula is an easy drive, takes about 1.5 hours.

Obviously depending on the days you want to travel the prices could swing dramatically.

The Double Tree is in a good location to walk to the stadium and also to walk downtown, as are the Comfort INN, and Campus INN.

Not sure what it is now or if other people plan to go early or stay longer. I hope we didnt get the cart before the horse and not secure game tix though.

As far as Missoula goes - eat, drink, play and stay downtown. DT Missoula is awesome. So whatever you do, stay downtown!

I'll give a rundown of Missoula, the Flathead Valley and Glacier NP in the near future when I get a chance. I was born and raised in Missoula and was a whitewater guide in West Glacier each summer throughout college (UM class of 2008). Hopefully I can help you guys avoid some annoying tourist traps.

Looking forward to the ASU/UM party coming back to Missoula. I'd be happy to answer any questions you all might have about MT.

Griz5700 What hotels would you suggest? I saw the campus inn seems decent. I believe some of the other ones mentioned are already getting booked. If you were to pick a day hike in Glacier what would be your choice? We can hike for several hours.

Flying USAir CLT-Spokane then renting a car and driving to Missoula. was able to use frequent flyer miles saved up just for this trip! Rooms booked at Missoula Marriott Courtyard--not sure if its downtown. Planning to do Glacier Park and whatever else we can fit in for a week! Thanks Griz for the tips! All are appreciated!

My daughter did a Pharmacy rotation at the Blackfeet reservation last July and really enjoyed going into Glacier Park in the evenings and on the weekends. She said there are several trails in the area of Two Medicine Lake, including one that goes completely around the lake. She also recommended in the town of East Glacier, a restaurant by the name of Luna. Best huckleberry pie, ever!
