Will it ever be okay to ask about coaching?

All I know is anytime you put that many points up against anyone no one can complain about the offense coach. Can't complain and shouldn't.
Our defense on the other hand gave up tons of points to end the season and followed suit again today. That side of the ball there are tons of questions. I'll let the pontificators on here points the blame

I agree. We go up against a UNC offense without their top 2 receivers and give up 63?? When are people going to look in the mirror and realize that we are now an above average sun belt team? Our defense has gotten worse and worse in the last year. Shawn Clark is a middling stable coach. He’ll get you 9 wins a year but never anything more. If that’s what we want - so be it

Well it didn't take long to start pointing blame. I regret making a comment. I just really glad I'm not a Cornhusker fan right now. Proud to be a Mountaineer!

It’s a message board made for discussing App State sports. Of course you’re allowed to talk about coaches and assess the program.

Didn't take long? Coastal was his last (potentially only) good win. We were out played in that game, but we won. We need to accept there are problems with this coaching staff or just... well, i don't know what the alternative is.

Here are the numbers ---
• Going into last year’s bowl game, App State ranked in the top 20 nationally in scoring defense (No. 16,
19.3 points), total defense (No. 18, 325.5 yards), pass efficiency defense (No. 12, 114.7), INTs (No. 10, 15),
defensive TDs (No. 6, four), red zone defense (No. 15, 73.7%) and rushing defense (No. 19, 118.8).

Of course, we should have won that game and I’m over the “it’s great to be a Mountaineer!” facade. My thing is that all these frustrations should be pointed towards Jones. He’s a huge hindrance to the program at this point.

Here’s another number:

Clark is now 2-8 is games where App isn’t favored by 7.5 or more

Great record at winning the lopsided ones, 2-8 in the toss up games.

We all knew we were replacing uh bunch of the guys that put up those numbers. Now we know what we have with version 2022. I'm not really on board with firing everyone after game 1. If that's what is needed start anteing up and buy out contracts. I hear Urban Meyer is available.

I was worried about our defense the entire off season, and it seems it was justified. We lost 6 of our top 7 tacklers and more importantly, we lost our defensive ends. I didn't see us get any pressure from our d ends the enitre game, our linebackers are awesome but can only do so much. And our DL line coach is really good, we just seem to lack playmakers at that position. I am concerned with Clark's big game record, but I find no fault in him going for 2 at the end of the game. In fact, I was very pleased with the aggressive call and in some ways it actually took some of the sting out of the loss. We laid an egg for the vast majority of the 2nd and all of the 3rd, but were able to come back and make a game of it. We have an offense, we just need to find a defense.

Honestly I could give a shit what the spread is - you either win or you lose - who has beaten us in a game we clearly should win?

We saw 2 pretty evenly matched teams today. What if the roles were switched and we played the rest of this season in ACC instead if Sun Belt? I like our odds a lot better than what the heels will face.

Stats where App “won” today:
Overall yards
Passing yards
Rushing yards
First downs
Sacks
Punts forced
Fumbles forced/recovered
Time of possession
Penalties (number/yards)

Stats where App lost today
Field goals made
3rd down conversions
Interceptions
Scoreboard

No real point here, other than our offense, despite going 29+ minutes not scoring in the middle of the game, actually kicked ass.

Yes - I liked the mix of plays and the new WRs are going to be outstanding - loved the use of the TEs and we have some stud RBs

Good post. Doesn't sound middling to me.

At one point in the game, we were 5 of 7 on 3rd down conversions.

Buy out his contract and replace him. Pardon the sarcasm.
