Put every kick in the endzone tomorrow and those numbers shoot up.
Defensive numbers very much skewed after the Carolina game. We have quite a few coming up after tomorrow that will get those stats way down.

So pretty average across the board. We have yet to play a complete game (even against A&M). After suffering a mental meltdown Saturday night, I've came to the realization that we are just an average team this year. Rebuilding some position groups and retooling the coaching staff. And I am okay with that IF (Major IF) the team shows improvement and fights hard through the season. Hopefully, after this average season, we won't get any major coaches poached to keep building continuity for the young players.
College sports are cyclical. Name a team other than maybe Bama that doesn't struggle at times. Even Clemson is "struggling" (to their previous standards).

The 3 Belt teams who pulled off those shockers are all looking average at best. Long time ago when that magical Saturday occurred.

That is no surprise
I'm sure touchbacks would go a long way in relieving the pucker factor each time we KO.

Georgia?
We were right there with those names though (for our level of competition). Look at Boise and Cincy though, they have struggled lately since Covid/Portal. We will bounce back, just need to recruit the trenches a little better and back end secondary. Winning cures all. Speed kills (and size helps), others have just caught up to us here. Oh and pray that Burger is a guy after Brice leaves.

Um, when has Cincy struggled since Covid? The made the playoff as a G5 team since covid. I would hardly call that struggling.

6,000,000 people out of work. It’s surprising that none of our assistants ant coaches are on this list.

Clemson isn't losing their games though
Lost 3 last year and won 5 of their 10 games by a touchdown or less. Which, by their standards is basically a lose. I was just using them as an example of having great teams with tons of NFL players requiring a year to get its bearings straight.
2 of our 3 losses have came to Top 25 teams. And, we shouldn't have lost those as well all know. Tx St will hopefully be an outlier. The sky isn't falling but the clouds are a little darker.

2-5 in last 7 FBS games. 2 wins: A&M, Hail Mary. What's the outlier in these numbers? A&M. Otherwise pretty consistent

While you are right, touchbacks also mean that we can't improve in this category.
The first three games were atrocious. However, JMU had one return for 23 yards (which is acceptable for a kick near the goal line), likewise The Citadel returned their only one for 21 yards. Texas State recovered a pooch kick, so they had one for zero. So, we've actually taken care of business in this department in the last three games, except for the kickoff out of bounds vs. The Citadel.

Maybe off topic but is it impossible at this point or can we still host the CCG and win the SBC? If so, under what scenario could this happen? Or play it on the road and win it?

Thought about this some today also.
I think JMU has to run the table and we need to win out just to make the championship game. Troy winning west and they host. Otherwise it is possible we would host if we were the highest ranked team. It's possible that this could happen but I don't have a lot of confidence we could pull it off. My guess is JMU wins out and Coastal vs Troy for SBC championship game.
I just threw up in my mouth a little bit typing that out. Everyone please forgive me for my lack of confidence in our guys.

We need to win out and everyone not named JMU in the East needs to have at least 2 losses. JMU winning out adds losses that we would need to Coastal, ODU, and Georgia State. If we beat all three as well, we are in a tiebreaker for the East worst case.
Hosting involves who wins the West along with CFP and possibly Computer Rankings.
