Just another recruiting discussion

Now that the season is finished, we have ample time to discuss [read: argue] about many important things such as:
- Which HC can truly be blamed for the 2019 recruiting class?
- Whether [Brice/Peoples/DJ/Clark/Yosef mascot/etc.] was an asset or liability at their respective positions?
- DJ music cuts vs. Marching band cuts between downs?
- If the stadium beer was cold enough during home games this year?
- If the "College GameDay curse" ruined App's season?
- The best BBQ joint in the High Country?
If you will, allow me to ask some recruiting questions...
Here's the first one:
positive/unforeseen impacts of NIL?
For example, a significant number of high school players play for JUCO's because they have academic issues. Does "NIL earning potential" change their perspectives?
- Do more of these high-potential players get serious about academics in high school, realizing how much money they could lose by spending 1-2 years at a JUCO vs. before being recruited to an FBS program?
- Do we see academics/graduations become a more important KPI (key performance indicator) for FBS programs because players realize flunking out means the cash flow stops?
Here's another question:
the future of the Portal?
- What do you think Portal recruiting looks like in 3-5 years in terms of restrictions, opportunities, challenges & ROI?
- Does it finally get regulated? By whom?
- How will players and coaches be using it to their benefit/detriment?
I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts on this.

This kid just visited Boone. 24/7 has us listed down as his top pick right now. As a true 4

WR he’d be our top recruit ever. I think locking down 4

’s that the big guys miss on is what can propel us in this era of the G5. Potentially exciting stuff.

Agree with all your points on Grant Tucker. Unfortunately, if he commits to App, he will be downgraded to a mid-three-star within a day or two. That’s why I don’t put much stock in 24/7’s evaluation system. Otherwise, it’s a great recruiting site.

A lot to unpack here OP lol. I’ll start with the softballs.
Best BBQ - Pedalin Pig. I REALLY want to try Willie Brooks, but haven’t got the opportunity yet.
DJ - I was kind of annoyed with the DJ music at times. Felt like we didn’t need music between every single down.
Beer - Plenty cold for me. I have never been a huge freezing cold drink person.
Positional Liability - Peoples, Dale Jones, Geep Wade, entire secondary.

Also recently visited GA Tech and has an offer. My guess is he goes there. Love to have him though.

We’re looking good for tucker before the nebraska offer. Not sure what happens now. I played and went to his hs and know some guys there. I believe he will play OLB in college from what i’ve been told but maybe at g5 level can be a WR.

Don't stars also have something to do with the state you're from as well? Like an absolute stud QB from Wyoming would never be listed as 5

or or something like that, I can't remember exactly.
I also saw a video before (Not App State related) where a recruit from Texas and Florida were going back and forth about their rankings and one kid pointed out because of the state he's in his stars were lower. Can't remember if that kid was from Texas or Florida.

In regards to to the DJ…….
We were having a great season until they played Sweet Caroline in the third Q of the JMU game.

The dj was so damn terrible this year; worst I’ve heard in a while. Some song choices, and timing, was super questionable. It really isn’t that hard to assemble a structured run of show and coordinate with the band.

Sent one to a south georgia kid the other day. Went pretty deep in state title run, pretty fast and good size. Smaller HS, feels similar to Kanye Roberts situation.

Read today that Colorado (Prime) got his first top 300 (whatever it's cslled) commit- a 5'8" 155 lb back who had like 1,900 yards this year. I know all of the measurables aren't equal and I know zero about the kid but those aren't rushing numbers that are out of this world and he's tiny for a D1 back. To compare Kanye is much bigger and put up insane numbers his senior season. How on earth any service can legitimately rank high school kids all over the country is beyond me. Obviously school size makes a difference but even in NC I've seen 3A teams easily handle 4A.

That was a Notre Dame decommit by the way. He’s very very fast.

Better be cause he ain't running over people. I'm sure he's legit good but his size just caught my eye. My wife's school here had a back this year probably about 5'9ish and maybe 180 lbs. If he got a crease he was gone- saw him house several long runs. He's maybe getting FCS or D2 type offers I've heard. I don't know his academic situation but my eyeballs said holy cow.

Fun fact: freezing cold beer and using frosted glasses and whatnot was created by Anheuser-Busch to sell more beer. The colder the beer, the less flavor. The less flavor, the more people will think they like it, the more beer they will buy. Now I’m not one of the Uber hipster beer guys who insist that room temperature is the “true” way to drink beer, but ice cold isn’t either.
