Maybe it's too soon but when Barbay took the Miss State job the story appeared on ESPN. Sloan hired as DC, nada.
I'd say that has more to do with Miss. State's situation more than anything. And they are SEC. The SEC is what powers the mother ship.

Clark gonna live and die by recycling old blood up the mountain. Interested to see how his OC hire plays out.

I guess this means App is keeping the 3-4. It also likely limited the pool of coaches.

I'm baffled as to why it took this long to announce if it was done for a while.
I made a joke the other day that we probably hired someone December 19th and that the 247 article would show that backdated date. Kept it quiet for a whole month, crazy. They like keeping us on our toes!
I just don’t get the thought process here, unless Shawn is done with the portal until after spring ball. We went pretty much the entire portal window with no DC and no OL coach.

Sounds like we hired Sloan the week of December 13th, right after his Army/Navy game. Just didnt announce for a month. He probably was involved in recruiting form hired date.

This is a good hire. Most us hated to see Sloan go. Glad he's back. Can't satisfy everyone though.

Wouldn't go that far. His hire date is later than Dec 13th. But the agreement was verbally agreed to that week. Then the red tape (and for some reason App has more than most schools) while the University was closed.

No, I’m just not so far up App folks ass that I can see what other schools are doing comparatively and am OK with making some changes. You cry any time a constructive critique is mentioned. Shawn and football ops should hire you as PR.

Wish Sloan the best and will be pulling for his success.

If I'm being honest though it isn't exciting news.

But my feelings in January aren't important, him recruiting and retaining the right young men and growing them is what counts. Good luck Coach and welcome back.
Just curious why you aren't a fan of this hire? Just because it's another retread? I completely get that aspect of it...
I wouldn't say I'm in the "not a fan of this decision" camp. The recycle component definitely plays into the reaction. Probably feels like it met expectations.

As fans we thought this type of hire was the likely outcome, but excited about the possibilities.

Sloan was a great coach and by all accounts an even better person, he's one of us and I'll be pulling for him as hard as anyone.

Worth the wait (since it appears we weren't really hampered through the recruiting process.

Happy to see him coming back to Boone. Sloan was on the short list of possibles that popped into my mind for this job when the job first came open. Just did not expect it to really happen. Maybe they already have someone lined up for the Defensive Line coach too.

Great to see him return! I hope he’s around a couple of years before getting picked off by a P5.

What you said wasn't constructive critique though. What you said was matter of fact that the staff went through portal window without certain staff in place. That didn't happen.

Instead, you decided to attack the coaches/program because you don't agree with their thought process. A big difference.

Dude, it’s a message board. Thoughts are shared on message boards. That’s all my post was, a thought. You guys are so quick to defend everything App that you take simple questions as attacks. They’re not. If you, the university, or anyone else who had knowledge, cares to share why the hire wasn’t announced for a month, and why to everyone on the outside looking in that we did indeed go the entire transfer portal window without a DC in place, then feel free. But that’s all it was, a question. There’s really no need for you and others to be *so* defensive about the program.

If it was posed as a question, sure. But it wasn't. It was posed as matter of fact statement. If you didn't have a history of complaining about every little thing, I'd give you the benefit of doubt.

Is it a constructive critique or is it a question? Stop moving the goal posts...

Sure, its a message board. Your thoughts are fine on a message board. But so are others. Some people have more knowledge than you.

And I have already explained why Sloan was not announced sooner.

One reason is that we have no real media covering our school on a daily basis anymore. Though, with the exception of David Coulson, we really never have (he had no fear). That's how Laney and Co. were able to run their fiefdom for so long. It's sad that there is no local reporter, nor one from W-S (anymore) or Charlotte to work for stories and break news with an impartial view.

It's super easy to hide the truth when there is nobody there to dig it up.

Yeah hard disagree. Most of what I talk about are big picture topics on how programs are ran. And I offer thoughts formed from consuming a lot of CFB media where they talk about other programs. Sorry if it offends you and others that I don’t just pat the back of every decision maker in a program that’s clearly been back sliding for 3 years.
