Football 101

I was talking with members of the administration today at the basketball game. I mentioned an idea of putting together an event where fans and coaches can get together and learn about how things get done and decisions get made by the staff. Obviously this would not be a free event. How many of you would be interested in shelling out say $100 per person to have the access for the day to ask questions and learn from the coaches?

Imagine if David Ware was in attendance... it would be at least 25 minutes per question.

To answer the OP, I think for the majority, the price would have to be $30 or under. Maybe more if dinner and drinks are included.

They used to do something like this for women. Forget what it was called, but basically it was all ladies that wanted to learn more about the game. Coaches and players would sit and discuss things with them. Not sure what happened to the program, but I don't believe they do it any more. It more or less turned into a social event any way.

For fundraising purposes, I'd be interested. They can also just auction more football helmets at 20 times that price and Clark can have an extra day on the lake.

The old Football 101 for the women is the genesis of the idea. I know that they are looking for ways to generate revenue.

Although I could not make it due to my busy season and living in DC, I think it should be done in conjunction with a spring practice even if not a spring game. Late afternoon practice, then dinner...and have items for auction...if there is a way to auction of items..jerseys, helmets, etc. throughout the evening event. Given cell service, not sure logistically how it would work..Require coaches attend, players optional. I do not feel players should be required to attend given their already busy schedules and in middle of semester.
First year, attendance may not be great...but you have to let these things grow.

Several of us here have floated these types of ideas to hold an event in conjunction with spring practice as a fundraiser, thank you for YC donors, etc. Athletics welcomes these ideas...then nothing ever happens. Very disappointing.

Yep. I still haven’t heard anything regarding our proposal that we put together about a spring practice event.

Given the asks for some announced and unannounced initiatives they are doing to generate revenue, I doubt they are going to do anything without a pretty steep price tag.

$125 per adult , kids $25 as I recall .Steak dinner, beer and wine .Nice event .Met and talked to each of the players , some briefly , others at length .Administrators and coaches of course are there and available but I spent my time with players as it's rare for me to get the opportunity.

Sounds reasonably priced for the event.

We attended last year and had Tyree Boykin at our table. Nice young man who quickly became our favorite player. Great event.

Perhaps football could replicate it , invite and recognize Seniors heading into their final year. Could become a nice tradition .We certainly have the facility and the catering ability.You could easily net several thousand dollars .Now I am bothered by why staff didn't think of this ...

Baseball used to do an annual first pitch banquet weekend. I recall getting families, fans and mostly women/moms involved in practice stations in sofield and then a lunch or banquet after during the Pollard years. Was a good way to teach the game and connect with families and fans. If it was a hit for baseball, it would definitely rake it in for football. It might be too big of an event though hahaha.
