To this day, no matter the accumulation, I shovel snow wearing shorts. Also something I started while in college.

Being cold is one thing....being wet and cold takes it to a whole new level. Waterproof shoes in Boone are so important. ( AND WOOL)
Is Boone, NC considered a rainforest?
Did you know that Boone, NC is truly in a temperate rainforest? On average, Boone can get about 4.4 inches of rain per month. It is set 3,333 feet above sea level and that coupled with its rainforest surroundings make it a magnet for fog.Jan 30, 2021

Speaking for those of us who still spend extended periods of time up there during the winter, I'll respectfully disagree.
Not to mention how winter goes on and on and on...much like it does in the northern US.

This is true!
My Freshman year in the late 80’s, it snowed twice, 3 feet deep both times in April!
They piled up the snow in the stadium parking lot and melted all summer, like a giant iceberg!

I DID know this! Growing up in southwestern NC, we were taught this in 5th grade. You can just about count on a rain shower every day around 2-3 o'clock during the summer. It makes for really nice, cool afternoons.spacemonkey wrote: ↑Thu May 02, 2024 1:23 pmBeing cold is one thing....being wet and cold takes it to a whole new level. I've lived in Boone full time for over thirty years, and the winters are most definitely milder than they were 20-30 years ago. Temperatures are warmer and snowfall is less. This isn't just my opinion because the data also shows this to be true.

When I was there, students would disappear into snow drifts, never to been seen again.mike87 wrote: ↑Fri May 03, 2024 9:05 amthe hills aren't as steep either. and now they slope both ways, used to be only uphill.fjblair wrote: ↑Fri May 03, 2024 8:16 amI've lived in Boone full time for over thirty years, and the winters are most definitely milder than they were 20-30 years ago. Re: Another Portal Loss and Portal Discussion
Sure did and the number of visits to the student health services went through the roof because the stairs became slip and slides. We used to sit at the student union and count the number of falls. The town actually ran out of salt at one time. Good times.BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Fri May 03, 2024 11:41 amwe were there during the blizzard in the early 90s...that did happen...lolKentHogan wrote: ↑Fri May 03, 2024 11:40 amWhen I was there, students would disappear into snow drifts, never to been seen again.mike87 wrote: ↑Fri May 03, 2024 9:05 amthe hills aren't as steep either. and now they slope both ways, used to be only uphill.

HOLD UP...I just realized...I'm becoming an old man and that's why the winters seem just as cold as they used to be.fjblair wrote: ↑Fri May 03, 2024 8:16 amI've lived in Boone full time for over thirty years, and the winters are most definitely milder than they were 20-30 years ago.
