For context on the misses.
2017 Stephon Brown. Came with a lot of red flags but Satt took a chance.
2018 Drink came in and grabbed DBG as a splash. Kid wasn’t as good as people hoped.
2019 Shuler was a Drink pick.
2020 Tabscott was a Peterson pick with limited live evaluation if any.
2021 Ponce is back and he signs Burger. Burger becomes the starter in year two after spending a year with Barbay and gets injured and transfers.
2022 McHugh is a Barbay pick
2023 Wilson is a Ponce pick.

In conclusion, while looking at the history in a silo, we haven’t hit on a HS QB in awhile outside of Burger who was Frank’s pick. All the others were someone else’s guy. So in my book, our current OC is 2/2 (Burgee and Aguilar) in identifying and developing talent. The jury is still out on Wilson and he may make it 3/3.

Frank knows his stuff, I think that’s why the door will always be open for him at App.

Should we mention the certain someone we passed over and took a shot on DBG instead? SBC football the past 4 years looks a bit different if Drink listened to SC’s recommendation.

I don’t know that the plan was for Wilson to start in 2026. It would make sense I suppose but I wouldn’t count on it.
Hard to plan two years in advance but I just know most HS QBs in their head have a goal of starting by their redshirt sophomore year. It would be nice to hit on a HS QB and was hoping that Wilson would be the next one.
The coaches have plans that are more than two years out. My personal opinion, Wilson isn’t going to be the answer at QB long term.
He has only been on campus since January and he is already a recruiting miss? We need to give players more time than that. If you are right then I wonder if Shawn is gonna look to hire someone who is real good at finding HS QB talent? We haven’t hit since 2016 and that is not good.
How do you glean what I said as a miss? Never said that. I said earlier that he has been on campus for all of four months and his story isn’t written yet. I also said that it is my opinion that he won’t be a QB. If I’m wrong then I’m wrong but the kid is an athlete and can play a multitude of positions. He is someone that needs to be on the field and if he isn’t QB1 then you move him to somewhere that gets him on the field. CoCo Hillary was a QB that got moved to get him on the field.
I figured you meant we missed since you don't think he is likely the starter in 2025 or 2026. I personally think it is too early, even for the coaches, to know for sure on anyone after 4 months unless he just can't throw. I don't see that being the case since we had him up at camp and the coaches got to see his arm live before we signed him.

In case he is not a QB did the coaches have him run WR and DB drills to see if he would be natural at one of those spots?

I don’t see Burger as a win. He didn’t stick either.

A High School recruit hasn’t taken meaningful snap since Zac Thomas. Sure, Burger was the starter, but he wasn’t ready. He won’t see the field for Liberty either.

Understood. My comment is my opinion and it isn’t meant as a slight to his abilities to command an offense, rather a compliment to his versatility.

That’s fair and certainly a criteria that can be applied. I look at as he was good enough to get on the field. Based on that, I wouldn’t call him a bust.

Just under 50% of our two deep in 2024 will be transfers. That will be the new norm under the current structure, I predict that percentage to get higher actually.

For QBs I'd put 4-5 offers out there on guys that would be stretch for us and backfill with the portal.

There are a lot of inaccuracies in the list on that website. They have guys in the wrong positions. But the point regarding the number of transfers still stands.

He’s been gone for awhile. He didn’t participate in Spring Ball

Yes. Lindsey announced awhile back. Criswell is leaving Arkansas for playing time and a chance to prove himself. If we play it right we might have a shot.

Thought I remembered that now. Not sure why ESPN just sent it out.

Do we have playing time to offer to a QB? Is he good enough to challenge Joey for the job?

Burger was not a bust. No one with objectivity can say he didn't get what he earned.

This is a good point...any QB coming in would have to understand they have an uphill battle to play this year...but like with Burger to Joey you're one play away from starting.

I would think Criswell is looking to be #1
