There were people in the laste 90s/early 2000s calling for Moore to be fired. I remember the "No Moore" days.DenverOfTheEast wrote: ↑Mon Oct 09, 2023 4:33 pmOf course onions vary, some decisions DG has made have been good, some haven't, that's leadership. As with Cobb as well.appgrad95&97 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 09, 2023 2:10 pmDenver, Opinions on Clark very. Opinions on Cobb very. Opinions on Gilian very. Opinions on Borkowski very (personally, I think he was a good Chancellor, who just didn't prioritize athletics). But no one thinks Roachel Laney was a good AD. I never thought this would be discussed. You're bringing him up shows how little you know about this University. It is stunning.
My first interaction with Rachel Laney was not good and this was after his AD career was over, I came to know him in other walks of life around Boone and had more pleasant interactions.
My whole RL comments stand on the fact the man did NOT fire Moore before he won the big one.
If there was YosefCabin in the 90's everyone woulda been calling for Moore's head, (like all these discussions for the past 12 months about Clark) and the fact he made a very good basketball hire in Buzz Peterson.
Maybe he(RL) didn't have the big time vision, but in the 90's when you can barely win the SoCon in football and no NCAA tournament berth since the late 70's how does the leader of the department confidently say 'yes let's move up' when at the time no one was really moving up anyhow. The town of Boone wasn't ready for growth either, For Peter's sake Boone doesn't have a full service hotel.
Just like 4 years ago the Big 3 (RICKS - Sofield and DG) flew to Central Florida and came back saying we ain't ready for that jump yet!!

Hopefully, we win these next 3 games convincingly and this thread hibernates for a bit. We lose any of the next 3 and Yosef’s Cabin might explode.

Re: Let's talk about Clark
I know there were doubts about him when he was hired but I only remember hearing "fire Moore" in 2003 and 2004 as we were backsliding some. There was a poster on the old Delphi MMB that was called NoMoore if I remember correctly. There was a lot of people who were pushing to fire Laney.

Re: Let's talk about Clark
I am afraid you are right. I think people need to give it time though. We have folks who blow up on here after a loss but we lost to 2 good teams. While it would still be early if we lose any of the next 3 it would be a bad sign for the month of November because these next 3 should be much easier than the last 4.NattyBumppo'sRevenge wrote: ↑Mon Oct 09, 2023 5:45 pmHopefully, we win these next 3 games convincingly and this thread hibernates for a bit. We are essentially 0-0. 3-2 is where most expected we would be, not necessarily how most expected we would get there though.NattyBumppo'sRevenge wrote: ↑Mon Oct 09, 2023 5:45 pmHopefully, we win these next 3 games convincingly and this thread hibernates for a bit. Have to finish 4-3 or better.
Have to win 2 of the next 3.

Re: Let's talk about Clark
Mathematically you are right but I am going to be very afraid of what November will look like if we lose any of the next 3. JMU, Marshall, Georgia Southern, and Georgia State are going to be very tough.311neers wrote: ↑Mon Oct 09, 2023 5:56 pmWe are essentially 0-0. 3-2 is where most expected we would be, not necessarily how most expected we would get there though.NattyBumppo'sRevenge wrote: ↑Mon Oct 09, 2023 5:45 pmHopefully, we win these next 3 games convincingly and this thread hibernates for a bit. Re: Let's talk about Clark
Actually..... according to the coaches the goal is to go 1-0 each game... so we would be 0-0 going into it.

I mean, let's be honest, we were dead as a program until Richie took the reigns. Big JoeB was a statue and while Fowlkes was good, our team didn't have much offensively until the spread was introduced. If Moore had not dramatically changed like he did, he should've lost his job.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 09, 2023 5:55 pmI know there were doubts about him when he was hired but I only remember hearing "fire Moore" in 2003 and 2004 as we were backsliding some. Re: Let's talk about Clark
Agreed. That change to the spread gave us life and without it I don't think Moore would have made it to 2006. I'm glad it all worked out.appstatealum wrote: ↑Mon Oct 09, 2023 10:03 pmI mean, let's be honest, we were dead as a program until Richie took the reigns. Re: Let's talk about Clark
Moore wanted to scrap the spread after the WYO game in 2004, Satt talked him off that ledge.

I remember hearing that. Obviously the final call was by Moore but Satt made a strong argument and got him to give it more time. The rest is history. Had Jerry not been talked into it we likely don’t go after Armanti. Imagine how that would have changed history!

Came straight from Jerry, he's told it a few times in interviews.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 10, 2023 7:37 amI remember hearing that. Re: Let's talk about Clark
I remember someone telling me that late in 2004 season but you are right he also was open about that. Didn’t say it first back in 2005 during the title run or at end of season?Saint3333 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 10, 2023 7:39 amCame straight from Jerry, he's told it a few times in interviews.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 10, 2023 7:37 amI remember hearing that. Re: Let's talk about Clark
2004 was a conversion year. Won every home game, lost every away game. No running game to speak of and secondary got baptized by fire.
After losing the final game to Western I think the team had a meeting (without coaches) to discuss where things were headed. Lots happened in 2005. Team had a renewed energy and the running game emerged with Richardson and Richey. Jason Hunter returned as well as Cory Lynch on defense. Perfect storm and we started the year without much respect.
