I agree somewhat about the play calling being a bit simple and predictable, but it's hard to argue with the stats. App is top 25 in the nation in most offensive statistical categories. Top 40 in ALL offensive stats. There are teams currently ranked in the AP and Coach's Top 25 who don't have the offensive numbers App has.spacemonkey wrote: ↑Wed Oct 11, 2023 8:32 pmI think the offense has been the most discouraging. I hate watching this offense because a few small tweaks and it would be a very good team. We can throw, We can Catch, We can run. We need plays to confuse or at least freeze a few defenders. We are SOOOO predictable on offense and we still almost win. Our zone run does not work because of crashing ends. We need to keep them honest.MrCraig wrote: ↑Wed Oct 11, 2023 7:31 pmSomeone convince me App shouldn’t just promote Ponce. He’s a good OC, a very good recruiter, despite being 3-3, App is in the top 25 nationally in yards and points per game. He could be head coach and OC like Drink was, which opens up the ability to have a special teams coach (an area App has been sorely lacking in). It would probably keep a lot of the recruits currently signed who are supposed to be really good according to 24/7.
Then your real question becomes DC and support staff.
I’m also very in favor of finding someone completely outside the App family tree, but Ponce seems like a good hire.

Re: Who?
3) Ryan Grubb - Washington
2) Will Stein - Oregon
1) Jeff Banks - Texas
Try those 3 first and then go to the next list, Stein is the closest to a Drinkwitz.
All 3 in mid 40's or younger based on college graduation on bio.
Probably all 3 making 1 million or more currently, all 3 teams in the top 10 as well.
No retread hire , No ACC assistant hire, all 3 fresh from out of the region and all offensive minded.

Last I saw some asshole from California won the 1.7 BillionVNova wrote: ↑Wed Oct 11, 2023 3:50 pmThis is the first I’ve read that DG has Clark in the hot seat. What’re his considerations/point of no return for making the call (other than the Dec 1 buyout decrease)?
Is it a losing record? Is it 7-6, including a bowl game win? is it a decrease in national tv appearances and Yosef club donations? Or did a deep pocket booster say they’ll front the money?
Now I wonder if he’s already started the search…

Re: Who?
So funny you say this because I see so many similarities between App and Nebraska under Frost. Both teams were seemingly in every game only to lose close ones in brutal fashion after some player made a foolish mistake and despite all that the fans kept supporting the team with continued sell outs. But Frost did some magic in Orlando.

Re: Who?
App fans always seem to struggle with the thought of hiring a coach that’s going to leave for P5 money. I have gotten over that and have accepted the fact that if we are truly successful we will lose coaches. But it has made me think about coaches that already have money and may just be looking for a spot to settle in and love coaching. Frost has money. I even think about Satt coming back. Satt has money too. Maybe it’s Jerry Moore syndrome. Coach Moore didn’t have the money but he found a place he loved and settled in for the long haul. A guy can dream.t4pizza wrote: ↑Fri Oct 13, 2023 8:42 pmSo funny you say this because I see so many similarities between App and Nebraska under Frost. But if it goes down here is a thought although they wouldn't do this, Mark Ivey. Why do I say this, Ivey brings a grit and toughness and most likely would keep Ponce and Sloan intact.

Re: Who?
I hate we couldnt someone like Steve Wilkes in here. The Carolina Kitty Kats were dumb for going with Reich over him. Not sure what he's making over at San Fran (searched but got tired of looking) but I would suspect it's under 2 million without incentives. Give him 1.5/2mill a year with incentives and he might just do it. The issue is San Fran is on a super bowl run and being in the NFL he may not want to drop back down. He's capable enough for a head coach job in the NFL so he may be looking that route. He's what, 51 now? Maybe he wants to be closer to home.... Just saying. Then again maybe I'm dreaming right now and I need to wake up. If those numbers I put up are wrong please correct.

Re: Who?
Some names to love:
Jimmy Rogers - HC @ South Dakota State. 2022 FCS champs. Arguably the best FCS coach in football. Young, innovative and plays a tough, gritty style of football with the blue collar chip on the shoulder attitude we’ve come to know well.
Collin Klein - OC @ Kansas State. Consistent winners and an offense that always overachieves expectations.
Garret Riley - I know I know. But that situation has more to do with the QB and Dabo than Riley. Although his name alone may elevate him soon to a role that’s a bigger stage than App State.

Re: Who?
Lane Kiffin was at Florida Atlantic for THREE years. The fact that Drink left after one year was kind of a fluke. Rich Rodriguez is at Jacksonville St. I get that it seems like I'm obsessed with him. But he has an offensive identity. He was successful at WVU. He wasn't that bad at Arizona.

$1.5M - $2M in SF is like $150k-$200K in NCASUTodd wrote: ↑Sat Oct 14, 2023 7:24 amI hate we couldnt someone like Steve Wilkes in here. RichRod is a known jerk of the highest order and I want him far away from App State. He got fired from Arizona for being verbally abusive despite success.appgrad95&97 wrote: ↑Sat Oct 14, 2023 8:45 amLane Kiffin was at Florida Atlantic for THREE years. He took over this season after their long-time coach retired. He was the DC at SDSU before getting promoted this season.J_Mountaineers wrote: ↑Sat Oct 14, 2023 8:26 amJimmy Rogers - HC @ South Dakota State. 2022 FCS champs. Kerwin Bell at Western is doing very well. Former D2 Natty winner at Valdosta State and was the head coach at Jacksonville U (which shuttered their program in 2019) for a long time.
