Warning - don't park at Wal Mart!
Warning - don't park at Wal Mart!
Warning - don't park at Wal Mart during football games! My friend has been doing that for years without any problems. Last week he got back to the parking lot after the game and found that his car had been towed. Apparently his wasn't the only one. For the record, the person he talked with in Wal Mart said that they don't own the parking lot and didn't have anything to do with it.

Walmart knows who does own it.
I think it can be found out and exposed.
The tow company knows who.
Please tell us when you find out

I checked Watauga County GIS. It is owned by Agree Boone NC WM LLC. I found an article in the Watauga Democrat about it. " 15.5 acres of land that includes the 147,900-square-foot Walmart of Boone was sold to a Michigan-based realty company for more than $14 million, according to a deed dated Jan. 16, 2020.PhillyApp1 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 02, 2023 4:14 pmWalmart knows who does own it.

Agree Boone NC WM LLC, which is registered to the Bloomfield Hills, Mich., headquarters of Agree Realty Corporation, made the purchase for $14,190,000, according to documents from the Watauga County Register of Deeds."

I'm not sure. I haven't ever noticed any, but then I haven't really looked. The tow company told my friend that there are, FWIW. There's probably one hidden in a tree or something...

True
No sign.... no right to tow
I think it's theft if no sign

Wow, if they can monitor every car in that lot and what the owners are doing more power to them.
Re: Warning - don't park at Wal Mart!
Yeah, the tow company actually told that they have people watching. Of course he parked way out at the very back of the lot to be courteous to actual shoppers. He probably wouldn't have been towed if he had parked near the entrance.TurfMonkey wrote: ↑Thu Nov 02, 2023 6:29 pmWow, if they can monitor every car in that lot and what the owners are doing more power to them.

The less reputable tow companies definitely have watchers looking for opportunities to tow, especially in college towns. While at LSU, my daughter and some friends parked at a Wendy's by the campus, ate lunch there, and then walked next door to an ice cream shop. In the 10-15 minutes they were there her car got towed. A guy approached them and said the car was towed and gave them a card for the tow company. He admitted that his job was to find opportunities to tow and quickly call a tow-truck driver who was waiting nearby. Apparently Wendy's allowed the company to tow at their discretion even when the car belonged to a customer who did not leave immediately after eating.apphiker wrote: ↑Thu Nov 02, 2023 8:20 pmYeah, the tow company actually told that they have people watching. I have parked at Walmart and carpooled to a game or two. I usually spend money on last minute essentials for the tailgate or souvenirs. I will no longer park there, nor will spend money there on last minute essentials or souvenirs. I can save money by spending $20 for a space in a pay lot and save the impulse purchases. Problem solved, and I probably come out $20-30 ahead.

Imagine paying $14 million for some real estate in Boone just so you can tow App fans as revenge for what App State did to Michigan nearly 20 years ago. Unimaginable levels of petty.
And of course it's at the Wal Mart. Wal Mart sucks. I bet Target would let you park wherever you wanted to for however long.

Yes, multiple signs. A few years ago you could not park in that lot in the afternoons/evenings, due to all the students parking there and catching the appalcart.

This was a hot button topic issue for weeks in this area when it was enforced. Maybe we start a thread for non locals of places they can/can't park on ganeday.
