The way they worded it they sounded like they are claiming there were 28k at GameDay in the morning with Kirk, Des, Pat, etc. There is no way in heck that they had 28k fans show up there. Just look at that area. Do you think there were as many fans there as in the stands for the game? No way. They probably had about 10,000 show up.

I believe their numbers for the game but I am saying I don't believe they had that for College Game Day at 10am. In fact I know they were talking about for the TV show because we had over 34k for the game against Troy last year and that was not a record. I could see 10k or even 15k but no way they had 25k for the TV show.

Football is about statistics taking calculated risks, and having your finger on momentum and the pulse of your team. The best coaches manage this the best. Clark has struggled with this, but he has also shown some signs of understanding it. Moving away from a run first offense and having the ball go through Joey is a great example of it. I also liked the way they handled the final drive before OT where we played conservative to atleast go up 8. Small things rule in football, nor depending on big sack on INTs to put teams away late.

The changes this staff made in-season has been phenomenal. It is worth heaps of praise, and I can personally say it is what I’ve been waiting to see out of Clark’s era for 4 year. Not necessarily even to this level of success, just the effort to address that what has worked in the past won’t work best with this team, and to carve a new path. As good of an in-season coaching job as a man can do. Definitive leader of this program.

Shout out to Sloan and his staff. They gave up 25 miles of offense to SoMiss, and nearly completely clamped Marshal, GaState, and JMU.

Could not agree more! I imagine there were very difficult conversations between the staff and the players had to know what was on the line. I think the buy in from the players shows how close the locker room is. Seems to be a different vibe than last year. They could have easily packed it up and only worried about individual stats after ODU but have done the opposite. Major props to the staff for making the changes and to the players for executing on the changes on the field.

Regardless, they had a huge turnout for Gameday in Harrisonburg.
On that note, I feel like College Gameday has really lost some sheen over the last few years. Pat Macafee is annoying, and the crowds aren’t as fun. If I were in charge, I’d forget “best game of the week” and go to the best atmosphere/culture each week. Look at the crowd in Harrisonburg or Boone last year compared to two weeks ago when they went to Tuscaloosa for the 400th time. There looked like maybe 500 ppl there. Give the little schools with good programs more love. I’d love to see more game days at Sun Belt, AAC, MAC, and FCS schools.

Agree. I was all but definitive on the need to blow up this staff and start over because of the struggle stretching across multiple games. Usually you want to see a turnaround quicker than what we saw here (multiple seasons of similar patterns), but something seems to be clicking (finally!) and it 100% has earned Clark another year. But another disastrous start and a loss of momentum would likely end his chapter. I honestly feel like he has turned the corner and may be a legit HC for a sustainable period of time. Time will tell.

We might hate purple. We might hate JMU..... But I feel they are in a better position to move forward than we are. Yes I'm going to get some hate for this. I don't know what it is about them but outside of some internal debacle or violations of some sorts.... I don't see them falling off. They have a winning coach that is a great guy. If they can keep him there for another 2 years they will be tough to beat for the foreseeable future. That would allow him to continue to recruit like he does and they can reload all the seniors they will be losing. He's 51-8 at JMU. He's 118-34 all time. That's a guy that can win. We can always hope a bigger team snaps him up and they can't reload their seniors and lose people to the portal. App will have to keep its foot on the gas, keep growing, and keep the eyes on the prize. We used to be the standard but give credit to JMU. They have done what no one else has. Yes it's in the portal era but still... It's impressive.

Not be a smart alleck, but what have they done that no one else has? They aren't undefeated for a who season yet. They have not played in a New Years 6 bowl or NY bowl for that matter. I certainly believe they can be the first to do these thing and have been very impressive, but seems a little early to crown them? They are in a good spot as a school for sure as they have other sports that they are competing in at a high level too and aren't one dimensional as we App has been.

I didn't take it as being a smart alec. If, and that's a big if, they hold what they have from this year they have a great base to move forward. Our two years of transition football we went 11-13. Right now they are 18-3. They are def setting a good base for their future. If Cignetti goes then I think they take a big dive. If they can somehow keep him, they should be good again next year. That's all I'm saying.

This might have already been mentioned by someone else but you can't compare our current NIL and new transfer portal environment to when we transitioned up.

I like certain numbers. App is among 20 teams who have won at least their last 4 games. Meaningless stat but still interesting. Better to be hot at the end as opposed to a team like USC, Colorado or Marshall who has fallen apart.
