SBC Championship Game at Troy discussion

I get that it is great that we went on a 5 game win streak.

We still only won 8 games and got completely obliterated to end it.

It’s not all death and destruction but it’s also not all puppies and rainbows either.

Next year it’s put up or shut up time, and everyone knows it.

This is exactly my thoughts. Let's run it back (hopefully with some of the same key guys and better recruits in the trenches) and see what happens.

Ps- still not a Ponce fan and he did little to change that today.

Sometimes they do it better than you. As others have pointed out, App made mistakes and Troy, because they are a great team, took advantage of every one of those mistakes. It happens sometimes. Agreed. They seemed to pick up some of our signals but we were too predictable. I believe in Sloan big time though and believe if we can keep the team together we win big. 8-5 does not make me happy but I never expected to win the title and would like to see what we can do next year with the late season improvements. I believe CCU, JMU, and Troy will take steps back with a lot of changes and we can take a big step forward.

Seems like our d ran out of gas pretty early, which tells me we’re still thin there. Not really a surprise given how young we are in places. We’ve got some holes to fill, and will probably have more with the portal. Overall I thought we were better than the score indicated, but make no mistake, we were easily beaten. Their lines were better in every way.

That said, in the last championship game, we were never in it from moment 1. This game was different, we were good enough to win, but had to be perfect, which we weren’t. I think it’s possible to get better in the offseason, but our staff has to be better. I’m not 100% sold they can get us there, but I’m more sold today than I was 6 weeks ago.

Troy is good. For all the focus on the east and JMU, Troy is good. We lost to a better team. We have flaws, which have been obvious for several years. But we are moving in the right direction. We just got beat by a team that is good.

There were some plays very reminiscent of last season for sure. We ran up the middle more today than all season combined and it wasn't there.

We have three OL that made an SBC all league team. Not sure it’s our entire line that’s the issue. But their OL certainly fared better against our DL than the reverse. Our speed played a huge role in our success over the last five weeks. Tonight we were overwhelmed by their size.
