The only upgrade has been Jalen at Auburn, everybody else was a drop down and I can't think of any that saw significant playing time or stardom.Bigdaddyg1 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 06, 2024 9:28 amOver the last 10 years or so of the the pandemic players who have transferred out of App how many landed in what might be perceived as an upgrade? Harbaugh's revenue sharing is one of those hypotheticals that sounds "okay" when it rolls of the tongue. However, it is fraught problems.
No matter how you slice it you are transitioning amateur sports into professional. Rev share is fine for professional but contradicts all the basic fundamentals of amateur models. Are they going to rev share by taking the total FBS revenue and equally divide it among all the FBS schools equally? I doubt it. It sounds good as a sound bite but everybody knows Alabama and Texas and all other top P5 schools have no interest in sharing their $100M plus revenue with App State or others.

Amateur model is barely breathing and will be dead soon. The fallout will be programs outside the top 20 and all non rev sports. Will be interesting to see how Title9 is navigated or dismissed.AtlAppMan wrote: ↑Sat Jan 06, 2024 2:55 pmHarbaugh's revenue sharing is one of those hypotheticals that sounds "okay" when it rolls of the tongue. That is the big question. Will we eventually have to see Title IX removed or will football need to be classified separately from all other sports?Pikapp79 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 06, 2024 9:49 pmAmateur model is barely breathing and will be dead soon. Re: Keep Joey 2024 - NIL
The answer has to come from States standing up for amateurism. The states control colleges not federal. I am fine with a two tier system as long as it is the paid league and the amateur league.
There were very few at the Troy basketball game. My children's high school has more paying fans than most of these colleges. It amazes me there is not more interest. I hope football breaks away and all other sports get much more local. App should be playing only SC, Virginia, NC, Tennessee, Georgia teams in Olympic sports. It is NUTS to send teams that far away when it could all be just as interesting locally and cheaper.

Could almost guarantee that Kanye, Nate, Hopper, Joey, Favors, and a few others could've had P5 offers if they went into the portal this year.311neers wrote: ↑Fri Jan 05, 2024 6:11 pmMaybe that’s a state of what we’ve been the past 3-4 years…ericsaid wrote: ↑Fri Jan 05, 2024 2:17 pmWho has been raided, exactly? As far as I can tell, he is the first, and only to this point, guy who left due to NIL.Pikapp79 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 05, 2024 11:23 amNIL will turn college athletics into even more of the have’s and have not’s. Afraid we will fall into the second bucket and will be raided every offseason. Yes we can pick up transfers but only what well funded NIL programs don’t want. I doubt we have many fans willing to send hard earned money to guy they don’t know who could up and leave the following season. Even if they do if the guy doesn’t produce to lofty expectations do you think they would be willing to pony up year after year? On top of that there will people making a lot of money setting up NIL programs with no oversight and plenty of headroom to pad their bank account. Crazy times.
Expect the divide in college sports will widen dramatically over the coming years.
Not many good enough to make the jump.
It’s a little of both. Kids want to stay, but we haven’t had the studs that can make the jump lately outside of a few.
Don't underestimate the current roster. It's young, and many guys could've left in December for another program but they haven't.
App hasn't really got a slot guy to replace Tucker and Davis but they did get an Under Armour All-American as well as Xavier Short, who was originally committed to App before flipping late to South Carolina.
Again, the portal is a big deal and eventually App will lose someone they can't replace but that hasn't happened yet. Overall, it seems to balance itself out.
As an example, look at the guys Georgia State got to replace Carrol. They got a very high character former walk-on from Clemson and Clemson was very surprised at his decision to leave. I think he was 3rd on their depth chart which isn't all that low in college football.
You can also look at Boise State where their starter transfers to Arkansas and they go and get the number one player from the 2023 class.

State control goes as far as where the Federalists think that they can achieve the same outcome that they want in totality at the state level. If they feel they can't guarantee the outcome, they will act.spacemonkey wrote: ↑Sat Jan 06, 2024 11:33 pmThe answer has to come from States standing up for amateurism. For a national coalition like college football, you'd almost need everyone playing by the same rules. Imagine a world where NC State goes to the SEC and they have a cap on NIL, among other things, while playing other southern states who don't. That wouldn't last very long.

You are wrong in your belief that there is a national coalition right now. It is the wild west. We are playing in your second scenario now!!

Interesting that Noel hasn’t found a home yet. RB’s are a dime a dozen, and he is a pretty good one. Or maybe he has and we just don’t know it yet.

Re: Keep Joey 2024 - NIL
Talked with my in-laws (FSU diehards, sucks) about him. They said he played a decent bit Freshman year, wasn’t really a Norvell recruit. Played a good bit 2020 and was solid but FSU wasn’t good. Got pushed down depth chart as Norvell changed program around thru the portal.Bigdaddyg1 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 07, 2024 4:54 pmWhat is the deal with the offensive lineman we just got from Florida State?
Pretty sure he graduated so going to get a hard worker for sure who knows what a winning team looks like.

Was that a reason he went to the portal? To be closer to home in Florida? Haha!

Re: Keep Joey 2024 - NIL
I’ve heard the reason as “he has a kid in Florida and wants to be closer to it”. Never know, could have potentially gotten enough NIL to bring them to Mizzou, or perhaps that was speculative rumor that grew legs.311neers wrote: ↑Sun Jan 07, 2024 5:59 pmWas that a reason he went to the portal? Doubtful we’d ever find out how much NIL he got (if any), unless he says the number himself.
Give 'em hell!
