I feel like Miami is as good as Liberty. Maybe not the brand or regional type of opponent but they have a top flight defense and an adequate offense.

I feel like App should win but after seeing the tackles get used and abused, as well as Clark's return to running with 6 blockers into 9 man boxes, I'm not so sure.

Good game, G5 Conference Champion on ABC on a Saturday. As the Sun Belt runner-up, it's not a terrible draw and one that would've happened whether App won the SBC or not.

Honestly, and as big a deal that momentum is, I feel like if we pick up the 4th and 1 driving for the lead (and not get a false start) we win that game. Crazy how 1 play can affect a game.

There were a handful of those seemingly little bitty moments that, had they gone another way, would've changed the game completely. For instance, what if there hadn't been that 15 yard penalty after the muffed punt? That would've made it more likely to score a TD instead of settling for a field goal.

This is why it's so silly to say App was "embarrassed."

Or, if the Targeting call on Joey at the goal line had been called. We would have attempted the onside kick from midfield and they would not have started with such a short field.

At that point of the game, SC pushed all of his chips into the pot and knew they only way we were going to get a win was to recover an onside kick at some point. After that he burned all of his timeouts to preserve as much time as possible and we overloaded the box to try to force a three an out. They were long odds at that point and Troy exploited the situation and did what they needed to do.

We had some good breaks to get us into a good position in the 3rd Q, and then didn't get the breaks down the stretch (and Troy executed)

For me, there were three of these moments.

1) the penalty for pulling the guy out of the pile on the muffed punt
2) the false start on 4th and 1
3) Funderburke losing his footing on the long touchdown. He was in position to intercept the ball but slipped. That was the true momentum killer.

After being embarrassed let’s see if our DL and OL bounce back. It will come down to this as the formula on how to play us is easy after yesterday. Time to step up and end the season on a positive note.
We weren't embarassed we got beat by a better team.

Would you say the same thing to the 2002-2004 or 2011-2015 teams? No you wouldn't. Teams have to learn how to be great. This group is learning how to be great.

Sorry, I thought you played until the final second. Didn’t know you can stop the score when you feel like it.
Did you even watch the game? What Troy did in the 4th was exactly what we did to teams from 2015 to 2023. They were beater than us and knew how to win. It was the most complete game any team has played against us all year. We didn't give up, they didn't give us a chance to win.

App -5 v Miami Ohio. That's interesting. Vegas doesn't like the MAC.

Anyone got tips on where to stay in regards to the action? Moving the game to UCF's campus has really spread this thing around. Between downtown Orlando, the airport and UCF, Lots of time/$ going to be spent on Ubers/Taxi's. Is there a preferred locale to minimize travel once there?

All 3 good and valid points. Thank you. It just really sucks to get blown out at the end like that.

I would imagine that most of the events will be centered in some area, I have heard Universal City Place but I am not sure. I doubt much takes place around UCF except the game itself. I would say the universal area is the best bet for hotels based on the website.

Not too shabby...

Ranking every college football bowl game from worst to best

16. Cure Bowl (Dec. 16, 3:30 p.m., ABC)
Appalachian State (8-5) vs. Miami (Ohio) (11-2)
The Miami defense is one of the most underrated units in the country. The RedHawks haven’t allowed more than 21 points in a game since giving up 24 in a win at Cincinnati in Week 1 and the Miami Hurricanes are the only team to score more than 28 against Miami (Ohio) all season long. App State is the only team to beat James Madison this season and had won five straight before losing to Troy in the Sun Belt title game.

Worry a lot of SBC members were backsliding the last half of the season and could look bad as a conference over all. Even JMU with losing coach/QB they could be a different team.

It was 14 to 14 early in the 3rd. I'd say we were equally as good as Troy and should share the SunBelt title
The Appalachian State

Score doesn't indicate how close the game was in actuality but it is what it is. You re-group, come out swinging against yet another conference champion caliber team, and you destroy them. DESTROY THEM for the entire country and every potential recruit to see.

Most anytime a team loses a starting QB spells trouble. I'm not speaking of our case in game 1.

Their QB that played the last few games entered the portal. Guess we’ll see if he plays in the bowl.

Last game their original starter played was vs Toledo.

The Sun Belt will have the best FBS v. FBS record among G5 conferences regardless of Bowl Season.

Regardless of this, the fact that the CFP debate was between SMU and Liberty, completely excluding Troy, shows that they don't care about performance for G5's. Troy's resume surpassed both SMU and Liberty. The Sun Belt was far and away better than the AAC and C-USA.

Perception isn't reality and I don't know that it will get there with Gill. We need stumpers. The success has been there. We can't all go 13-0 and then shout "HEY, LOOK AT ME". We shouldn't be required to win every big game on TV in spite of everything else that is done and has been done.

The metrics are there. The models are there. The success on the field is there. The only thing not is some rich pukes in a boardroom.
