Larry Hand and Bart Star
There's a pic on FB of Hand sacking Bart Star. Has anyone seen it? It showed up yesterday and I tried to cut and paste it on here to no avail. Can anyone help? App's Larry hand was a monster and lasted over a decade with the Detroit Tigers. Hand came from the day when were still in NAIA.

That's Bart Starr from my beloved Packers back in the day and I'm sure you know it was the Lions - not Tigers

Yeah, I meant Lions. I had just read a post on FB about the Yankees and the Tigers.

Larry is a super nice gentleman. Had the pleasure to be introduced and chat with him at football alumni function this Spring. He became friends with Starr and a number of NFL opponents especially OL he competed against. Interesting story on his recruitment and time at App. Looks great.

I’ve got a couple of his football cards . Back in the 60s I think his was the only one to have “Appalachian State “ on the back.
Re: Larry Hand and Bart Star
I remember hearing Howard Cosell say (in your best Cosell voice) “ Laryeee Hand from Appalaychun which is how you pronounce it. I know people from the area”
That was before I thought about ASU but always remembered that.

Yep my Dad would always yell at the TV - It's Appa LATCH un - nothing really having anything to do with the University but because so many things in our town in WVA were Appa LATCH un something - Appalachian Power, Appalachian League baseball, Appalachian Grill, etc.
