Makes sense if the regular season as well as the bowls are considered, which is the right way to do it.

No G5 Conference had a winning record in Bowl Games, so the Belt's 5-7 mark wasn't as bad as many claimed it was:

AMERICAN (6) 3-3 .500
ACC (11) 5-6 .455
BIG 12 (9) 5-4 .555
BIG TEN (9) 6-4 .600
C-USA (4) 2-2 .500
INDEPENDENTS (1) 1-0 1.000
MAC (6) 2-4 .333
MOUNTAIN WEST (7) 3-4 .429
PAC-12 (8) 5-4 .555
SEC (9) 5-4 .555
SUN BELT (12) 5-7 .417

Only Big 10 won more bowls

Thanks for posting this. For whatever reason, there are still some Sun Belt naysayers on this board when there are multiple data-based ranking systems that have it as the highest-ranked G5 conference. Two more:

Real Time RPI: http://realtimerpi.com/college_football ... f_Men.html

Colley's: https://www.colleyrankings.com/curconf.html

Colley's isn't as reliable because it ignores a lot of variables and only observes records versus other conferences, but the numbers still indicate that we're the strongest G5 conference and that didn't change when we lost a few bowl games.

This shows SBC is basically going to move into the top 5 spot for conferences going forward with the Pac going away. There is no reason to see us doing anything other than getting stronger in the upcoming years.

Could be fairly fluid given the year to year fluctuations coaching changes and transfers.

There will be super wide gap between 2 and 3 in a few years.

This is why I don't like all the "App moving to a P4 conference" talk. Why move "up" when App can stay in the Sun Belt and the conference can continue to grow and get stronger. Let the other conferences eat each other, and focus on getting bigger and better.

I love our conference for football but I still thinks it makes a lot of sense to make football its on conference. There are plenty of good basketball and baseball in the Virginia, NC, SC, Tennessee area. It makes no sense to me to send those teams so far away and all the away games not being drivable. I truly hope Football splits from the rest of the NCAA and we have a small region conference for all other sports.

There is better baseball in the SE/Sun Belt and is only getting better.

I would want to stay in that pool.

The Sun Belt is the best fit for Appalachian right now. Basically, the reason UCF, Houston, and Cincinati moved to an A5 conference was to save that conference. In the latest round for the Sun Belt to poach other conferences and not lose any members to other conferences is a testament of just how stable the Sun Belt is at the present.

App is really good at not chasing rainbows or letting rainbows come to them as it is at creating its own rainbows.

thanks op. That is great. Hard to believe how far the American has fallen.

The American has fallen, because it went after Markets instead of Schools that really care about their football scores. The same exact model is what brought down C-USA. It may be what brings down the Autonomous conferences as well.

Conferences come and go, because schools will do what they feel is best for them at the time.

Completely agree. Even when the ACC expanded to include BC and Miami I had wondered the economic sense in flying non revenue sports that far for games. Let's face it even most women's basketball games at that level don't exactly pack the arenas except for a few teams. Keep sports like baseball, softball, volleyball, etc more regionalized for better economic and interest reasons.

Plus, it's great from a fanbase perspective. If you live in Central or Western NC, you can drive to every Sun Belt East opponent, watch a game, spend the night and return home.

Even an outlier like Marshall can make it to JMU, ODU, and App St. or make a weekend trip to the Dirty Myrtle or Savannah. GaSt and GaSo can make a trip to Troy/South Alabama and USM in addition to App and Coastal.

Beats the hell out of being a UAB fan and only having 3 conference mates within six hours or ECU only having 3 within seven hours, two of which require I-95 North traffic and offer no sense of regional rivalries.

There are no Texas schools in the Sun Belt East.
