AMERICAN (6) 3-3 .500
ACC (11) 5-6 .455
BIG 12 (9) 5-4 .555
BIG TEN (9) 6-4 .600
C-USA (4) 2-2 .500
INDEPENDENTS (1) 1-0 1.000
MAC (6) 2-4 .333
MOUNTAIN WEST (7) 3-4 .429
PAC-12 (8) 5-4 .555
SEC (9) 5-4 .555
SUN BELT (12) 5-7 .417
This is why I don't like all the "App moving to a P4 conference" talk. Why move "up" when App can stay in the Sun Belt and the conference can continue to grow and get stronger. Let the other conferences eat each other, and focus on getting bigger and better.
I love our conference for football but I still thinks it makes a lot of sense to make football its on conference. There are plenty of good basketball and baseball in the Virginia, NC, SC, Tennessee area. It makes no sense to me to send those teams so far away and all the away games not being drivable. I truly hope Football splits from the rest of the NCAA and we have a small region conference for all other sports.MrCraig wrote: ↑Wed Jan 10, 2024 12:24 pmThis is why I don't like all the "App moving to a P4 conference" talk. The Sun Belt is the best fit for Appalachian right now. Basically, the reason UCF, Houston, and Cincinati moved to an A5 conference was to save that conference. In the latest round for the Sun Belt to poach other conferences and not lose any members to other conferences is a testament of just how stable the Sun Belt is at the present.MrCraig wrote: ↑Wed Jan 10, 2024 12:24 pmThis is why I don't like all the "App moving to a P4 conference" talk. The American has fallen, because it went after Markets instead of Schools that really care about their football scores. The same exact model is what brought down C-USA. It may be what brings down the Autonomous conferences as well.Captain Morgan wrote: ↑Wed Jan 10, 2024 1:49 pmthanks op. That is great. Hard to believe how far the American has fallen.
Completely agree. Even when the ACC expanded to include BC and Miami I had wondered the economic sense in flying non revenue sports that far for games. Let's face it even most women's basketball games at that level don't exactly pack the arenas except for a few teams. Keep sports like baseball, softball, volleyball, etc more regionalized for better economic and interest reasons.spacemonkey wrote: ↑Wed Jan 10, 2024 1:04 pmI love our conference for football but I still thinks it makes a lot of sense to make football its on conference. Plus, it's great from a fanbase perspective. If you live in Central or Western NC, you can drive to every Sun Belt East opponent, watch a game, spend the night and return home.Bigdaddyg1 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 10, 2024 3:10 pmCompletely agree. Even an outlier like Marshall can make it to JMU, ODU, and App St. or make a weekend trip to the Dirty Myrtle or Savannah. GaSt and GaSo can make a trip to Troy/South Alabama and USM in addition to App and Coastal.
Beats the hell out of being a UAB fan and only having 3 conference mates within six hours or ECU only having 3 within seven hours, two of which require I-95 North traffic and offer no sense of regional rivalries.
There are no Texas schools in the Sun Belt East.Pikapp79 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 12, 2024 6:51 pmTexas an overnight trip?WASU 93 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 10, 2024 10:52 pmPlus, it's great from a fanbase perspective.
