Probably not, especially if Clemson flops throughout the year and very well could be 1-3 to start.Bigdaddyg1 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 08, 2024 7:23 amStinks to already be in playoff mode (can't lose a game) but that's the reality. Seriously can we lose to Clemson, run the table and be the highest ranked G5? We probably would not get any votes until we go like 9-1.

Going undefeated is a tall task to accomplish. The Liberty game is possibly more important to playoff aspirations. They are likely the competition for the playoff spot. Winning the head-to-head could help.

This is why the only fans that have a chance at being happy on a regular basis are the ones that are good with a Sunbelt Championship.Bigdaddyg1 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 08, 2024 7:23 amStinks to already be in playoff mode (can't lose a game) but that's the reality. You can’t have the playoff without the SBC Championship. But the Championship doesn’t guarantee the playoff.Mjohn1988 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 08, 2024 9:26 amThis is why the only fans that have a chance at being happy on a regular basis are the ones that are good with a Sunbelt Championship.Bigdaddyg1 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 08, 2024 7:23 amStinks to already be in playoff mode (can't lose a game) but that's the reality. Then you’re one of our fans who should have a pretty good chance at actually having fun watching our games. That’s what I’m going to try to do, be happy with a good showing in the Belt and if we win a P5 or two, great. But having to make the playoffs and win all our P5 games to enjoy the season is not going to work out. I got myself in that place a couple of years ago and by the end of the season my family didn’t want to be around me on game day.

On the lighter side, I spoke with a Clemson friend and avid football fan a few days ago and he didn’t even know who they are playing on Sept. 7. He is totally focused on August 31.

Re: September 7, 2024
Would you rather win the conference and play a first week bowl game of win the conference and get trucked in the CFP. No wrong answer. Both have benefits to the school.

Re: September 7, 2024
Win the conference and make the NY6 bowl (or CFP) no matter the outcome. Winning a first weekend bowl game means we had a few down games in the regular season. Making the CFP means we beat Clemson and won the SBC. Nothing in the postseason could taint a season like that.
Unfortunately, to a point earlier, the better question for our fanbase is would you rather beat Clemson or win the SBC?

Re: September 7, 2024
Beating them would help but I don’t think that losing to Clemson is going to impact a shot at the CFP. Winning the SBC with a win against Liberty would be more beneficial to the CFP berth as they are likely the direct competition to the access.

Re: September 7, 2024
How many years has the G5 rep in the NY6 not had a P5 win?
Need a lot of help if we lose any game.
I like the optimism to have this conversation even for an offseason discussion.

Re: September 7, 2024
Beating Clemson would make my life a lot easier down here in South Carolina. Give me a Clemson W over the SBC at the moment. That would have monumental positive impacts for our University for decades, similar to Michigan. These opportunities aren’t going to come around as often as they used to with the ever changing landscape of P5 v FCS/G5 schools.Saint3333 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 08, 2024 7:41 pmWin the conference and make the NY6 bowl (or CFP) no matter the outcome. I have encountered same. I have lived in Upstate SC almost entirely since graduating in Boone. Maybe 2-3 of the many Clemson diehards I know realize we are even on their schedule. It is all about UGA.
We are their home opener and they have open date after App so pending their UGA efforts should be a strong crowd.

Re: September 7, 2024
Gotta love the off-season filler. They haven’t played one game of the 2024 season and already have an “updated” top 25 and they dropped a spot.
