I agree .. however...somewhat interesting given that Brice was a bit of a gunslinger.. Clark had to live with it I guess since we did not really have a good second option after Brice..AppSt94 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 08, 2024 12:29 pmFair assessment. I got the feeling that Joey played a little outside of Clark’s comfort zone. As the season went along, I think that Joey helped Shawn grow as a coach.Mjohn1988 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 08, 2024 12:25 pmI get the feeling that Joey scared the coaches. I think they saw Burger as more of a game manager and Joey as a gunslinger. But we have no way of comparing the two. The coaches could have made the correct choice with Burger. We will never know.BallantyneApp wrote: ↑Thu Feb 08, 2024 8:42 amI think the other thing we learned last year is that practice Joey and GAMEDAY Joey might be 2 different people. Not saying he doesn't practice hard or prepare but sometimes how you act on gameday doesn't translate in practice. He was neck and neck with Burger in practice but the stats in the elon game are wildly different, not to mention the whole body of work.704App wrote: ↑Mon Feb 05, 2024 9:07 pmThere's always a chance, but QB1 is Joey's to lose.Black Saturday wrote: ↑Mon Feb 05, 2024 9:02 pm
Any remote possibility we end up without our current #1 QB? Why did the Texas QB come?, likey not to continue to hold a clipboard for a G5
If White outplays him in spring ball and camp, he can take the reigns. I just don't expect it.
But, the coaches will always put the best 11 on the field at a time. Only way anybody is a sure starter is if there isn't anybody else in their position group.

Re: 2024 Spring Ball
Brice was a pure pocket passer, didn't have as much flexibility with what we were doing with him at the helm. We gave Joey the keys to the RPO which not only scared the coaches but some of us fans as well. Early in the year you could see him trying to process the reads and sometimes made the wrong one. He improved drastically throughout the season and he started to take what was in front of him. The game slowed down for him.BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Thu Feb 08, 2024 1:51 pmI agree .. however...somewhat interesting given that Brice was a bit of a gunslinger.. Re: 2024 Spring Ball
I see Brice as a little bit of both. He had the arm talent to put it anywhere, but he also had the experience to know what the limits of a play are. That’s not to say that Joey was reckless, he just had the memory of a tadpole.BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Thu Feb 08, 2024 1:51 pmI agree .. however...somewhat interesting given that Brice was a bit of a gunslinger.. Re: 2024 Spring Ball
Brice's weakness in our system was the lack of a run threat. Still one of the top two true passers ever at App.

Re: 2024 Spring Ball
By the end of the season Joey was putting the ball in some really small windows. Those no, no, no, great throw type of plays. They say great QBs need short memories. He grew a bunch in 23. If he works hard and gets some good coaching in the spring and fall he could be special in 24.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 08, 2024 2:48 pmI see Brice as a little bit of both. Re: 2024 Spring Ball
I think improving on the RPO decision making idea could make him one of the top QBs in the country whether G5, P5.Mjohn1988 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 08, 2024 3:29 pmBy the end of the season Joey was putting the ball in some really small windows. Re: 2024 Spring Ball
Literally! I remember watching him against ECU in 2021 and thinking "wow, this dude is legit". He threw a beautiful ball, especially on those deep shots. Which is where I hope Joey can get a little more accurate in 2024.

Re: 2024 Spring Ball
Hopefully Wright is as good as we think he is and we'll have a little more freedom to let Joey run. We couldn't afford using him as a runner much with absolutely nothing behind him last year.
When will "It's better than what we had" no longer be good enough for App State?

Re: 2024 Spring Ball
All joking aside if after 8 games Joey has 3,200 yards (just going 400 a game) and let's say 24 TD's is he remotely in the discussion? Who is the last player from a really good G5 to even get in the discussion for the Heismann? Let's also assume we are 8-0 and Clemson is still pretty good.

Re: 2024 Spring Ball
If the interior line plays like the coaches want them to, I don't think Joey breaks last year's passing record. We'll see a balanced attack with a preference for the run. If not, sling it Joey.

There is no way he gets any serious consideration for the Heisman, regardless of how well he may be doing.Bigdaddyg1 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 12, 2024 4:10 pmAll joking aside if after 8 games Joey has 3,200 yards (just going 400 a game) and let's say 24 TD's is he remotely in the discussion?
