Clark talked about physical blocking out wide. Can’t wait to hear if Grant Tucker is making strides and how many DB’s Short is putting on the ground at 6’2 220lbs.

All joking aside if after 8 games Joey has 3,200 yards (just going 400 a game) and let's say 24 TD's is he remotely in the discussion? Who is the last player from a really good G5 to even get in the discussion for the Heismann? Let's also assume we are 8-0 and Clemson is still pretty good.
There is no way he gets any serious consideration for the Heisman, regardless of how well he may be doing.
If he plays out of his mind, and App is undefeated or maybe has 1 loss, he will get some consideration. He won't win, but he could be a finalist. Jordan Lynch at NIU was a finalist in 2013. Before that, Kellen Moore at Boise State was a finalist in 2010. It's incredibly rare, but it's not unheard of for a G5 player to get Heisman consideration. And if we say "consideration for the Heisman" is just "talking about him as a Heisman candidate at literally any point in the season by a reputable sports media outlet," I can see him getting a little talk.

Which would be worth more to Appalachian, a Heisman Winner or an FBS National Championship?

Championship 1,000%. Those two are probably linked together in this alternate universe. If somehow App won an FBS championship, it would be because we have an elite QB who won the heisman and beat several top teams in the playoff.

Brice's weakness in our system was the lack of a run threat. Still one of the top two true passers ever at App.
Second only to.... Joe Burchette?

Joe had a rocket, but Joey still has a chance to be better.

But no QB could smoke a pack, drink a six pack at Klondike on a Thursday and then run over linebackers and sling it for 250 on Saturday better than Joe.

You had to see him in person to realize the arm talent Burchette had.

If we are just talking arm talent then Burchette has him beat and always will but if we are talking about the best QB I would take Joey for sure. Burchette had a rocket launcher though. He would have played in the NFL if he really wanted it and put in the hard work needed to make it.

Your point about smoking and Klondike is 100% spot on. He did not have the nickname smokey Joe for nothing. lol

Burchette did have a rocket launcher. The only game that I ever witnessed where he was neutralized was the playoff game against Maine in Boone when winds were gusting over 45 mph during play.

We were lucky to get Joe. I went to HS with him and got to know him pretty well. Our head coach switched to the Veer before Joe's senior season which obviously didn't fit his game. It just so happened the coaches son was a run first QB. They split reps that entire year and a lot of schools backed off of Joe. Thankfully Tim Horton saw the player he could be and got him to Boone.

I think the other thing we learned last year is that practice Joey and GAMEDAY Joey might be 2 different people. Not saying he doesn't practice hard or prepare but sometimes how you act on gameday doesn't translate in practice. He was neck and neck with Burger in practice but the stats in the elon game are wildly different, not to mention the whole body of work.
I get the feeling that Joey scared the coaches. I think they saw Burger as more of a game manager and Joey as a gunslinger. But we have no way of comparing the two. The coaches could have made the correct choice with Burger. We will never know.
Fair assessment. I got the feeling that Joey played a little outside of Clark’s comfort zone. As the season went along, I think that Joey helped Shawn grow as a coach.
I agree .. however...somewhat interesting given that Brice was a bit of a gunslinger.. Clark had to live with it I guess since we did not really have a good second option after Brice..
Brice was a pure pocket passer, didn't have as much flexibility with what we were doing with him at the helm. We gave Joey the keys to the RPO which not only scared the coaches but some of us fans as well. Early in the year you could see him trying to process the reads and sometimes made the wrong one. He improved drastically throughout the season and he started to take what was in front of him. The game slowed down for him.
Speak for yourself. Many of us saw, and commented on, the pure speed he had in making reads when the UNC game hit. He was making throws before guys exited their breaks, throwing to open spots rather than players, and showed off his mobility. Almost every trait he has shown is next level and if he has another 30 to 40 TD season, App will have its first NFL draft pick at quarterback.

You could say he made some of the wrong reads but the majority of those were early in games. The pick 6 against ECU and the end of the game against Wyoming was on Ponce, in my opinion. Can’t go four man verts against double A gap blitz with no backfield blocking.

Is there an answer to the Louisiana and Troy bulk line?

Our speed line seem to get stumped against them.

Maybe its strength and conditioning but my guess is it's a little more
