Anyone on here old enough to remember Bill Mauldin? He played at App back in the day. Bill gave an acceptance speech for his induction into the Stanly County Sports Hall of Fame last night on the campus of Pfeiffer "University." Evidently he played football and another sport at App. He was very emotional about former players, coaches, and colleagues. Except for the grey hair, looked like he could suit up. Not an ounce of fat on him. No wrinkles.
'66 on here may remember him, but probably not many others.
The program was emceed and arranged by Toby Thorpe, an App graduate who did a lot of public relations and media work at App.

While I didn't know him personally I knew that he was a Mountaineer and he was also a Watauga Pioneer as he was the football coach in the early 1970s. Good man.

Coach Mauldin was the head coach of Watauga's 1978 3A state championship football team, I believe. My cousin played on that team.

Know him well. We started together at App Fall 1963 and graduated together spring 1967. We lived in Justice and then Newland hall, wife Linda, an App grad also. They live in Blowing Rock. Super nice couple and great alumni.

Great representative of Albemarle/Stanly County and lover of it. Calls it home.

I know a few fellas from that team, Jimmy Flick, Chip Con, and Danny Triplett (played on Clemson National Title team). Had Coach Mauldin as PE teacher, he always told me to keep weight training in order to improve my wrestling skills. Good to hear he is doing well.
