How Much is Your College Football Team Worth?

Mostly what I would expect with a few exceptions; Tulane at 129, WVU at 82 (lowest P4). App State is number 95.

Re: How Much is Your College Football Team Worth?
I wonder if some entity will eventually go the stock trade gambling route with college football.
Ohio state is valued 10billion like a stock. Football teams break away from schools and become "franchisees" of the schools to allow for name, logo, etc use. Schools get a percent kickback and charge facility use fees. Athletic departments sell stock to investors for 49% of ownership. College football then becomes privately funded with investors getting a partial say in company matters. Teams would have boards responsible for success like corporations. I could see this type of thing happening. It's not impossible. The more I think about it the less I think we will see a standard minor league system form. There is just too much money involved and I think setting up a minor league would devalue the organizations.

That chart pretty much shows App State will never/can never compete with the $$$$$ flowing into those universities. The money will never be there unless we can get a Elon Musk or Jeff Bezos to fund the program. The rich will just get richer.

To my knowledge, Elon doesn’t have a college football allegiance. Doug, get him on the horn. It’s time to convince him that deep down, he’s a Mountaineer.AppState89 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 24, 2025 11:52 amThat chart pretty much shows App State will never/can never compete with the $$$$$ flowing into those universities. Similar ideas are already being discussed and written about in various media groups. I actually think someone linked an article several months ago on here about venture capitalists looking to own 51% (maybe it was 49%) of college teams. Like it or not, college football is big money and whenever there is big money, the really big money people figure out a way to get involved and make more money. Problem is that everyone in charge is just looking to make more money with no apparent concern for the product or the fans. The further the game gets away from what I will call traditional college football the more fans (especially older ones) will leave the game.appdaze wrote: ↑Fri Jan 24, 2025 11:51 amI wonder if some entity will eventually go the stock trade gambling route with college football.

I'm not trying to be a jerk, and maybe I'm misreading your post, but this isn't news. Programs like Ohio State, Notre Dame, Alabama, USC, Texas, etc. have always been light-years ahead of programs like App when it comes to money. That's one of the other reasons why App's wins over Texas A&M and Michigan were such a big deal. App will never compete with those teams in dollars, they never have been able to. But App CAN recruit those little engines that could, dominate their peers, and knock off the big boys when they aren't looking.AppState89 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 24, 2025 11:52 amThat chart pretty much shows App State will never/can never compete with the $$$$$ flowing into those universities. Re: How Much is Your College Football Team Worth?
Not sure the corporate model will work for college sports. Corporations grow and either buy or take market from competitors. Amazon (and their customers) are fine without having a peer competitor. This doesn't work in a sports league; Ohio State needs legitimate competition or the market loses interest in their product. If Amazon buys a smaller company, customers of the small company will likely buy from Amazon. If Ohio State makes Purdue insignificant or "puts them out of business", Purdue fans will never "shop" at Ohio State. At some point, we will have reduced the competition to about 30-40 teams that actually get to compete for the ultimate prize. There will be only 10-12 that actually have a chance of winning. And make no mistake about it, this is what the SEC and BIG commissioners want. At this point, the market value will diminish, I think. The NFL realized early-on that revenue sharing is the best way to ensure competitive balance but without a powerful governing body for college football, this will never happen.t4pizza wrote: ↑Fri Jan 24, 2025 12:21 pmSimilar ideas are already being discussed and written about in various media groups. About 100 billion would do. That would be enough to build my own bar/theatre to watch games and leave a little bit aside to buy a team each year.

How about over/under $1M to never attend a game and $2M to never watch or read about the program again?
All numbers post-tax before that guy shows up.

This is an interesting thought exercise and I appreciate those! I am on the younger side so the numbers are more to me because I hope to live another 50 years.
To never attend a game ever again - $3 million
To never read or watch anything ever again - this one is tough because it’s such a huge hobby/interest - I would say $15 million.

I can’t picture any amount of money that could keep me away from Appalachian State or Boone.

Re: How Much is Your College Football Team Worth?
I read this as VERY ENCOURAGING. We are one of the most valuable g5 teams and very close to many p4 teams. If you look at this from a long term investors point of view, I would buy the AppState investment over many of the higher valued teams. There is way more upside for AppState and a legit path to prosperity for AppState. We really need to lean heavy on a marketing group. We need to pay up for professionals. We could easily turn this into western NC's team. HICKORY, WS, Charlotte, Greensboro it just has to be a marketing plan. We need sales people that are paid 100% commission to get our name placed around the state and sold. If you draw a line from downtown Charlotte to Ashville and downtown Charlotte to Greensboro that entire corner of NC should be APPSTATE country and flooded with AppState marketing.

So if one buys a specific college team, What assets do they get? Stadium, all future revenue from tickets, branding rights, etc?
Do they control the donor giving money incoming?
