I couldn’t get through it.

It was difficult to watch. Other than App fans, I doubt people would have much interest in it.

His knife handling while opening the box also made me a little antsy.

Did you notice that he opened the bottom of the box. He had to research the school after he opened the box the first time or one of his assistants did.

He also posted a follow up to mention Luke Combs.

All exposure is good exposure. (Mostly)

I saw this. I did not know that App had any Jumpman branded apparel. Love to get my hands in one of those.

The football team has some. They handed them out last year at the golf tournament.

I think Georgia Southern tried to poison Jon Gruden with that Beautiful Eagle Creek Water.

Clark and some players wore Jumpman branded App gear to Mountaineer Talk last fall.

There's long been a cycle of Football people (and last summer Basketball) wearing not-for-sale gear, people seeing it and wanting to buy it, then being told they can't buy it because it's "team exclusive" and killing goodwill. Then you see friendly Podcasters wear that gear.

Before the inception of Yosef’s locker, official team gear came out of the athletic department budget and wasn’t made available to retailers to purchase. That isn't the fault of the athletic department.

That's the play, if allowed. Instead of one item (what the coach is wearing during the game), open more items, like Jumpman, a few weeks or so after the team has access. Could be a another revenue stream. If the pictured shirt above did not have the stripes, I would have purchased it if available..
Some of the shirts we see during workouts with team slogan for the year, etc. I think fans would get into that. Makes them feel closer and more a part of the team. Just my opinion if allowed to sell those items to public.

He did several times, he said “latch”.

I heard it a couple times but the fact he could not be consistent and said it incorrectly several times is just disrespectful and lazy. Gruden has a lot of issues and I am not sure why our athletic department saw fit to send him gear. He has schools fooled into giving him free swag and there is no benefit to it. I am not mad at him but more disappointed in the schools for it.

I don't know if many people remember but he was the coach with the Bucs who reached and took Dexter Jackson way higher than he ever should have gone. For some reason nobody in the NFL either wanted to, or could, figure out how to use him and Armanti correctly.

This has been a big missed opportunity for several years.

There are a lot of low hanging fruit opportunities like this one. Dollars aren’t necessarily big, but it could help grow the donor funnel and generate excitement across the fanbase.

When one has nothing but disdain for the fans, one never considers these possibilities. Our athletic department has consistently shown that thinking of the fans is not something they prioritize.

It’s a great idea and I’m sure that there would be some interest. Has anyone broached this suggestion to Doug in an email, or in person? Now that Athletics is running Yosef’s locker, it might be somewhat possible. As for the Jumpman merchandise, it may be provided to football with the understanding that they can’t resell it. One thing that I’ve learned from talking to athletics is that brand licensing isn’t a simple process as slap an A on it and make a buck.

I would love to hear the legal reason from them why we could not sell shirts with slogans like the players wear during workouts. I agree with others that people would buy them for sure. It would be nice if the marketing department came up with these low hanging fruit ideas instead of us having to. I have never heard of a school with as many reasons and excuses for not doing things as people in Boone have.

I think that the best option to satisfy your curiosity is to ask someone that would have not only insights, but also someone that you trust. If you don’t believe the source then you won’t buy the answer. You have sources within the athletic department, ask them. I’ve sent Sara Strickland ideas for products that could sell if App branded. Those ideas have to go through both legal and licensing so it’s not an easy process. There are a lot of licensing and contract land mines that have to be navigated. There are also trademark costs and limitations.

The other side of that stance is that once you start making team issued merchandise to everyone, it devalues the item as team issued. Having something that no one else has creates a sense of team.

If you, or anyone else has ideas, you should contact the folks in the athletic department. They are open to ideas. Sarah Strickland is a great source. Chris Wood is the Chief Revenue Officer so I’m sure he is interested in any ideas that will fill the coffers. Everyone has contact information on the website.
