Doeren Scared of App State?

Doeren appears to be scared of this game and it sounds like he and the AD disagree on it. I will be surprised if Dave is still there in 2028. Either way, I don't think anyone expects this game to actually happen. The ACC does not want them playing on the road against G5 teams just like we should never play on the road against a FCS team.

It could be moved again , with penalty or it could be a conference game in '28 .At this point who knows?

If I am Gillin I do not move it. I make them pay the buyout to flat out cancel it rather than kick the can down the road. I feel like there is a better chance that Boise State becomes a conference game than NC State but I would gladly take having NC State as a conference opponent.

Michigan still wishes we had not come to Ann Arbor.
NC State does not respect East Carolina, so why should we expect them to respect us.

Their fans might disrespect us but their head coach fears us. He knows what a loss to us in Boone would do to his career.
Even though they got revenge on us the stain of 2007 will live forever so I am pretty sure they definitely regret it or wish they had gotten us without Armanti.
These big schools might look down on small schools overall but they definitely appreciate that they miss talented players out of high school. They work hard to poach from FCS and G5 schools every year through the portal.

They shouldn't fear us any longer. They should embrace those games and get a first hand look at next year's crop.

Of course he doesn't want to play but let us just break down a few of his points just because it is the off season it is always a sore subject for our fans. Let me bypass the obvious excuse because "the commissioner said so" and just focus on his points.
The reasoning behind not wanting to play a Group of Five school on the road comes from when North Carolina went to App State and won 63-61 in 2022, Doeren said. Despite leaving with the win and surviving a fourth quarter that featured 62 total points, the Tar Heels went from receiving nine coaches poll votes to just three. That didn’t sit right with the ACC and Doeren can see the thinking behind it.
“Where’s the value in the game as a program?” Doeren said. “I understand it helps them, but you’re not in the business to help the other school. You’re in the business to help your school. Any road win against another opponent shouldn’t hurt you in the rankings, and it did hurt them.
IMO the problem was not that they lost but HOW they lost. It exposed that they were not as good as they were thought by pollsters. Anytime a team puts up 61 pts on you that is not UGA or top team, it leaves a bad taste. I would assume if that happened against a fellow ACC or SEC team they would have yielded the same ranking outcome. Am I wrong?

Well they didn't lose, so there's that. But yes, I think you're correct otherwise.
I've always wondered what the takeaway from that game from the UNC perspective would have been if they'd won, say, 31-29. We were expected to be a good team, obviously it was a wild atmosphere... typically I think a close win on the road would have been considered a solid outcome for the visiting team. But what most people remembered was "40 points in the 4th quarter."

That is how I would look at it. Honestly, I am torn on playing those games from our point of view now. If we pull an upset it is huge for us as it helps financially, with prestige, and helps our players prove to the NFL they can play but it also provides free in person scouting of our players to those programs to help them decide who they will poach. Same can be said for FCS teams playing FBS teams now.

I get his points but would it not look worse to lose at home rather than on the road? I feel like you just have to say that you should not play on the road to a lower tier opponent. Same goes for us that we should never play a FCS team on the road as well.

Grown men aren’t “scared” of playing a football game. That is fan speak.

Not sure it is scared..more so, it is commissioner does not want an ACC Power school playing a Group school on the road...not sure if it is revenue related, giving Group legitimacy in whatever way, or some other reason.
Although I am sure NC State will take game seriously, the coach at NC State does not think his team will get beat whether home or on the road...just my opinion.

first, our new coach has to earn the respect we had. But the Pack Pride page seems to think he will retire after next year or 27. We'll see. Would like to catch them with a new coach though.

Agree. I don’t buy the Commish said no argument. That was used when the game was pushed back. If it was an issue then they would not have rescheduled it.

the commissioner does not lead the conference. The member schools CEOs do. The commissioner does nothing that the schools don't approve of. And judging by the fact that SIX (6) ACC schools are playing away at G level schools in 2025 with zero consequences tells me that the schools don't actually care about playing away at G schools, its just one particular acc school that doesn't want to play at one particular g school.

I put a question mark and don't really think he is scared of us. I do think with his job security he does not want to play on the road to a G5 or play a top tier G5 that could beat him. Western Carolina gave him a scare for a while in Raleigh and he saw what we did against UNC so he clearly does not want that smoke.

I would love to get them with a new coach. I fully expect us to have a different coach by 2028 as well.

I do not like App State being referred to as a lower level school. I would hold them to the game or collect the 2.5 million and tell them to shove it. No way we should push it out farther because it will just be the same scenario again. We could potentially get 2.5 from them plus another couple of million from another school who sees the value of playing us.
Of course, he IS scared to play us in Boone or he would man up, accept the challenge, and bring his best.

No coach of a mid tier team in what is probably the 4th rated power conference should hold their nose up to what is normally a good or highly regarded G5 school. Not a great deal of difference. When you struggle to go maybe 8-4 in the ACC why are you concerned about playing an in state school? Just move on from this ass clown.

After the way NCSU shambled to the end of the 2024 season (including getting pantsed by a very average ECU squad in a bowl game), Pack fans wish Doeren and his big mouth were gone. Yesterday.
