Coach’s poll
https://sportsdata.usatoday.com/footbal ... 2025-08-04
Unsurprisingly, no SBC team receives a vote. I questioned how Buffalo got 1 vote then realized who their coach is.

Re: Coach’s poll
The question is, does Pete Lembo (Buffalo coach) still teach his players to dive at the QB’s knees? Or was that only when facing Armanti?moonshine wrote: ↑Mon Aug 04, 2025 9:04 pmhttps://sportsdata.usatoday.com/footbal ... 2025-08-04

It is not where you start in the preseason...it is where you are at in the final poll.

Re: Coach’s poll
Gillis was weirdly at West Point, everyone had to know that wasn't going to work: He quickly transferred out of West Point during his first year, and played a year of football at Elon University in North Carolina. He was later asked to leave Elon University, and then returned to his parents' house, where he lived while attending community college. Gillis ultimately graduated from West Chester University in Pennsylvania with a degree in history.
I want to know why is had to leave Elon now.

Re: Coach’s poll
This has always been probably the dumbest poll out there. Are these coaches actually sitting down to analyze each team (now with complete unknowns in terms of rosters) and then making real informed decisions as to some sort of ranking? I’d be curious to see this same preseason ranking from last year and match it up with the final. I’m sure several of the usual suspects were highly ranked but how started there and either finished out or way down the rankings. Agree, it’s where you finish.

Re: Coach’s poll
I am very disappointed we are not in the preseason top 25. Not really as we don’t deserve to be.
I agree the final rankings are what matters most. However, some folks on this board also don’t seem to get it that the initial poll does matter because the higher you start the higher your ceiling in the end. If you are in Top 25 or getting votes you start the season on the radar. It does matter. This year was not possible as we have to start from scratch but I will take a preseason ranking every day and Sunday vs not.

I was about to say that I had read he was asked to leave Elon and ask the same thing you are asking. I would love to know why he was asked to leave. It had to be something bad.Saint3333 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 05, 2025 8:39 amGillis was weirdly at West Point, everyone had to know that wasn't going to work: He quickly transferred out of West Point during his first year, and played a year of football at Elon University in North Carolina. Re: Coach’s poll
Being in the early poll helps with that but if you have a tough schedule then preseason ranking does not matter. If we somehow had 2 P4s on our schedule and both were ranked we could climb high out of nowhere as long as we beat them and those teams turned out to be good. It does not bother me that we don't have any votes but I would obviously take being in there as opposed to not being in there. If we want to get major national respect and climb up the rankings we need to be undefeated after Boise State and hope we are their only loss this year. They are suppose to be the best team we play by far.AtlAppMan wrote: ↑Tue Aug 05, 2025 4:49 pmI am very disappointed we are not in the preseason top 25. Not really as we don’t deserve to be.
