Game day Operations

The product on the field left a lot to be desired and the game day operations weren’t far behind.
The speakers were terrible on songs with any level of bass involved. The transition from annoying ads to crowd engagement attempts were sloppy. The dance team timing, the opening video, the 4th quarter video were botched.
3rd down bell misses, playing music when we’re on offense…
Go back to mountain music between the 3rd and 4th.
I did like ain’t no mountain high enough between the 1st and 2nd quarter.

I was so confused when mountain music was the song of the game. Why change something like that?

I try not to criticize these things too harshly because there are many hard working people behind the scenes.
However, we desperately need a new sound system, it’s borderline embarrassing at this point.
Seems like we could afford an upgrade if we can find the money for a new indoor facility.
Hopefully one day we can get it all done.

Seems like the sound hasn't been good since everything was "upgraded" many years ago. It was better in the FCS days.

I made a comment about this. Gameday Ops had a ROUGH day yesterday. They’ve got 3 weeks to improve.
Missing 3rd down bells should never happen. Ringing 3rd down bell after our offense gets a 1st down was odd.
A lot of the other issues were mentioned.
As far as the sound system. It’s not borderline embarrassing, it is a full blown embarrassment. No excuse for it to be that bad.

Totally agree about sound system. An absolute embarrassment.

Game day ops has left a lot to be desired for a very long time. Almost like they are over complicating something that should be simple. And not having a structured run of show.
Count me as one who doesn’t really care for mountain music being played. I get it. But, it’s not really apart of the tradition as it was started in the DG era. The song is about our region and more so about old times in southern appalachians; but more so points out WV and heading further south in Cajun country.

I spent the day in Raleigh having gone to the NC State/Va game as my daughter is a student there. I was in awe of their video board and speaker system. Would absolutely love to have that up on the mountain. Came back and watched the replay of our Mountaineers and boy what a weird game. Glad to escape with a W, but we still don't know what this team is yet. I still have faith in DLO to figure it out.

AC/DC, not Alabama.

Sound system gets an F. Also, looks like they replaced the security company with ASU Security Cadets. They seemed to do a good job from where I sat. Walked over to the scoreboard area and it smelled like a Grateful Dead concert.
Also, the my cell service worked great. Vastly better than previously.

It appears that our sound system is inadequate. That said at least have enough sense to turn the volume or the bass level down so it doesn’t sound so awful. I mean did our staff not hear that?

"Remember how y'all thought my mixing/track selection were to blame for the game day jams sounding so garbage? Blame the sound system, yo!"
Sincerely,

I think they ran the sound system too loud early on and ruined it. Not sure why it hasn't been fixed but it's getting worse by the year.

I will agree cell service much improved. Regarding music, Back in Black by AC/DC should always be played when wearing all black uniforms.

I did learn a lesson. Water at most of the places is $5 but it was $1 at The Cardinal truck. Other lesson would be don't jump around on the big screen TOO much...
Sound system does need work. It actually seemed to sound better when close to it rather than my seats in 201.

At the West Side entrance, I don't understand why they moved the security out further into the plaza and made a chokepoint with the Adam Church stage. It wasn't awful and the lined moved decently well if you knew how to wiggle in. It could create issues with a more impatient crowd and seems like something a risk management advisor would caution against.

Last year was worse for us getting after that concert. But we went through much earlier this year.

What happened to “Welcome to the Rock”? That has been a tradition for years and years

Any visit to The Cardinal truck is an automatic win. It's our go-to at Music in the Valle and Beech Mountain Music Festival: great food and they know how to serve a ton of folks in a hurry.
Scoring $1 water there is icing on the cake.
