The Good, The Bad and the Ugly- Oregon State

Post by t4pizza » Sun Oct 05, 2025 6:53 pm

The Beavers traveled to Boone and left with their sixth loss of the season. Despite their record, the Beaves had faced a tough schedule with their opponents only losing a combined 2 games on the season heading into the showdown with App State. App stood tall and prevailed 27-23 in a game that went down to the final moments.

The Good- A home game in October with picture perfect weather a strong crowd of 35,021 (sixth largest ever) that mostly stayed the entire game and let the Beavers know about the home field advantage at the Rock.

The Defense- Trailing 27-21, the Beavers had 3 scoring opportunities in the 4th quarter, but the DEFENSE was there to make a stop each time. The first chance ended with a 3rd down interception in the endzone by Colton Phares. The next chance was rebuffed by a strong rush defense as the Beavers had a 1st and goal from the 3 but our D simply would not let them get those 3 yards. The final chance also ended in an interception after Juan Berchal slobber knocked the Beavers leading receiving on the day (13 receptions for 179 yards), laying him out for more than a standing 8 count and causing him to lose the ball that popped into the hands of Zyeir Gamble for the interception. The final minutes were nerve wracking, but our D stood strong and protect our lead.

A cleaner game with only 6 penalties for 49 yards and no official turnovers (more on the in the Ugly).

Divine intervention- App State honored Shawn Clark with his 61 painted on the hill beside the block A. The PA announcer informed all at the Rock of the tribute and the following play App State forced a fumble and the resulting drive ended in a touchdown. Not all will believe, but sitting in the Rock during turn of events, it sure felt like a helping hand from above to me.

The Bad- The passing game- JJ Kohl made his first start as a Mountaineer and played good for the most part, however, a less than 50% completion percentage, aided by dropped passes, will not get it done. What JJ did do is make good decisions with the ball as he only competed passes to the Mountaineers with no opposing Beavers touching any of his balls.

The Ugly- There is no acceptable excuse for our students to charge the field after beating a team that was 0-5. I don't care who they are, what conference they play in, how the game ended, or anything else, no victory over an 0-5 team should result in the rushing of the field.

A fumble with the ball in the end zone almost resulted in Beaver td that would have given them the lead (with the extra point) very late in the 4th. Fortunately, JJ Kohl was alert enough to get on the ball before any Beavers could do so. The play resulted in a safety, cutting our lead to 4 and giving the ball back with less than 2 minutes to play. It all worked out but it could have been disastrous.

It is a lot like cutting down the nets before the season begins so when you have that big win over someone that is ranked it will feel that much sweeter and safer for everyone involved. I imagine the only reason some students came to Appalachian was to rush the field and slide down Miller's Hill. I will say this, you should enjoy ever win regardless of who it is because it is so hard to win. Besides at the end of this game it did not feel as though OSU had lost that many games this season. Besides for us you need to act like you have been there before and rushing the field is part of that. I will say this much, if rushing the field is a positive experience for everyone involved students may stay at a game they would otherwise leave early, they may stay just for the opportunity to rush the field again. Rushing the field for some is just like an alter call, it is an experience they will never forget.

Good - Epic D stand at the one yard line
Bad - Good bad .. that is one bad man... The hit on the receiver to create the interception.
Ugly- Pass coverage D is very suspect. 358 given up.

Great clean hit by our D. Hope 7 from OSU is fine. That kid balled out on Saturday. 13 catches for 175+ yards

Good--We won. I think 6 wins is truly in sight for a bowl game. Dub is a workhorse that can lead us to a bowl.

Bad--OSU was a top 20 to 40 program for a good 30 years. Then the Pac 12 died and so did they. I feel bad for their fanbase.

The ugly--our fanbase pooping on each other in a public forum because we can't just be happy.

The dessert--Unc is absolutely shitting the bed worse then when Bill forgets his depends.

Side note. When fans storm the field the band is not allowed to play their post game show according to this post on this fan page from 6 hours ago.

Unlike 40% of the crowd, the students were still there for the final two minutes. Cut them a break.

I think the field rush was a celebration of the defense holding off those last 3 drives with an incredible goal line stand and then the monster hit causing the interception. It was a statement to the emotions that came into play right at the end of the game...not anything to do with the quality of the opponent...however, Oregon St is kind of a power school who had played an extremely tough schedule. Field rushes are fun and there were a lot of recruits up there that saw the passion our fan base has for the program...that's a damn good thing.

Grown men stressing over students rushing the field is so silly to me. What’s the point? It’s not a big deal. Team played their ass off, especially the defense in the 4th. It was an exhilarating win, let them celebrate. Our team has struggled this year, and their grit and determination pulled out a good win. The atmosphere was incredible. I can’t imagine taking it all in, only the run home and complain about 18-22 year olds rushing the field to celebrate.

It’s especially silly to me that a few are worried about “how it looks.” Who the hell cares what another school thinks? Enjoy the moment.

GO APPS!!

Agreed. I do wonder how many of the students knew the background of OSU and their record. Probably many are going to the game for the party in the student section and miller Hill.

I don’t care if students run naked or clothed on the field.
I DO CARE when they touch opposing team players.
I Do CARE and am pissed some chose to flip off those players and make other obscene gestures. Utterly classless.

At first I thought it was a bit ridiculous to rush the field but in retrospect who cares? Most students are never nearly as into this stuff as the old hats on message boards are. Many are pretty toasty by games end and just want to do crazy stuff. Our pass defense was awful but we swarmed on defense and we overcame some god awful calls. I don’t normally complain about officiating because I like to think it stinks both ways but the PI fixation got way out of hand. Great win

Settle Down. Yeah, it was Dumb rushing the field, but we played like we didn't know what Football was for a month or so. Plus, it was fun to rush the field, I wasn't one of the Miller hill crazies I waited until a minute or so after the game got a few pics with friends and left. Go Apps beat GA ST!!!

Just know that as a student, most of the old farts on here and Facebook are going to slander you any time you try to have fun and enjoy your college experience. Don’t let them ruin it. Keep it classy, keep showing up and staying late for games and rush the field when you like. I do not care at all!

It would-be been more than field rushing if it was the ducks.
