Prove Me Wrong - App Football Season - Positive Vibes

Unread post by asu2000 » Tue Oct 07, 2025 8:36 am

We should be 4-1...
Bowl Eligible going into JMU...
We will win 7 or more games...
We should not play beyond Texas as a state...
This team has not played a great game in all aspects...its coming soon
The team hits its stride at ODU...

My opinion only
1. We are 3-2 because we made a lot of mistakes and have been slow at cleaning them up. There is always woulda coulda but we lost both games substantially, not just a few bad plays but a whole lot of bad plays. It is just where we are as a developing team.
2. Maybe
3. Maybe
4. Occasionally one off like a Boise St game I have no problem because that is a justifiable series.
5. Agree
6. I hope and maybe so

The argument for or against playing games in certain regions of the country used to center around recruiting football prints. Some used to say it was pointless to play in areas where we never got players. Guess that’s really not a big deal anymore as most of the roster changes and we get guys who are from everywhere.

Really impossible to prove you wrong but I hope you are spot on. Always easy to say what a record “should” be. Sometimes you win one you should have lost.

4 - I like the matchups on paper and the trips are probably epic for folks, but man Montana FCS playoffs, Wyoming 2x loss, Boise beat down - maybe its that clump of states touching, although Hawaii everyone was only there for the fishing and scenery - we have had our fair share of bad L's on the east coast as well. But there have been some awesome near misses on this side of the US as well, but not out west.

Woulda coulda shoulda.......

None of it matters.

None.

We are 0-1 in the area that matters the most.

From 1991 with JMs first to 2019 our last we won 14 conference championships. That's 14/28 seasons. 50%......

We haven't touched one since......

I will continue to beat this drum.

Win the conference. That's it. Win the conference. Until we get our program back to at least 3/7 years with a chip then all this other mess is just a distraction.

Win

The

Conference

Asking for a friend....By chance would our recent W-L record tied to our player purchasing budget or lack of it? Not sure that number is disclosed, in searching for this after the out Jimmy and Joeing event at Boise State. Where do we rank in the Sun Belt?

In JM Days, we lived on finding the overlooked gem of a player that had to finish at APP, but should we do that now, those players are almost certain one and done with us. The success JM had won't be duplicated because we will most likely remain under the AAA farm teams of the money conferences, unless something changes financially.

I'm still completely unsure what to make of this team after last week. OSU is better than an 0-6 team usually would be, talent wise. But holy crap did they do everything possible in terms of mistakes and questionable play calling to give us that game, and it took every single one of those blunders on their side for us to get it. Yes we made the goal line stand, but they made it kinda easy for us with their play calling there.

Boise went exactly as I guessed it would have gone. USM was basically Marshall 2024 and the result was more or less the same. Charlotte stinks and Lindenwood was overmatched against us.

So what are we right now? Maybe the QB change to Kohl is the change we needed to right the ship? I certainly liked his performance better than anything I have seen from Swann. And the more we run the ball, the better we have always been. I think we have a defense that is good enough to win a lot of games if they aren't on the field too much. So ride that running back room, have Kohl make the plays when needed, dominate TOP, and let the defense play with passion in shorter spurts.

I guess I still am where I was at the start of the year. Boise was going to be a bad loss, but every other game is winnable, but a lot of down to the last play types of games. If Kohl is the missing piece, maybe these games become less of a coin flip than they were before.

Can Dubinion take the pounding over the season??? I've missed the others in the room being ready to share that load.

My general feeling is that the program is back on the right track. It’ll take another year to really see it as we have too many issues on defense that require more talent to fix. On the offensive side, we need to take much better care of the ball and really double down on our identity as a team that runs the ball.

We should make a bowl this season. I think we’ll bring in some good players in the off season and next year should be pretty pretty pretty good.

One of the good/bad questions of a transfer player coming from his situation. He's definitely fresh enough, he didn't get worn down in the SEC. But we also have no idea what he is and is not capable of in terms of load.

Like you, I was expecting to see more from the other backs. Losing Kanye was huge for sure, that would have been the answer there. I'm guessing we are going to be near the point of the season where we get those answers fast.

Disagree on Texas boarder. We had the Pokes beat. A blocked FG for TD was like something that has not happened in 50 years
In addition, I want to play Boise, OSU.. for that matter other schools out west.
Just because we have not done well in the past does not mean that is written for the future.

I think if we are bowl eligible this year it will be a good accomplishment. To me the teams that showed up vs Lindenwood, USM, and BSU were not a 6 win team. So getting there would show actual improvement during the year and learning.

As a west coast Yosef member, I like the more western games. Ya'll don't forget those two wins in Moscow!

For the 2025 season my personal definition of a successful season would be both receiving a bowl invite and winning the bowl game.

As i have said before...the purpose of college sports is marketing your university brand. We should play all over the USA to make sure everyone knows the Appalachian brand for our graduates seeking jobs. After this weekend, more Oregonians know Appalachian State University.

I said preseason that Boise and OSU would tell us a lot about the team. A split meant we were on the right track but needed improvement. I still feel that way. I think App continues to improve and finished with 6-7 wins.

What is the secret sauce to winning out west? I would love to be proven wrong that we can win out there, I put a caveat on my no play out west - and thus as long as its home and home then lets do it otherwise we need to win our regional recruiting areas, one off games have not proven to well out that way. What's been the stumbling block for not playing small teams in Florida like USF, UCF?
What are some winnable matchups / on par teams in most given years for out west. We were supposed to beat Wyoming last time but they decided they wanted to re-write the history books with a blocked FG.

Also amendment Montana a certain playoff game was not necessarily our doing of scheduling - but extremely hurtful, so many tears. And have we ever won at Montana?
And the moscow wins looked to be in front of 10,000 rowdy fans each game, i could go on, but you are correct we did win 2 low key games beyond Texas.
