After our win yesterday, we picked up 4 star TE Jamel Howse, who is now the highest rated recruit in App history.
A lot of people may (understandably) be frustrated with our on field performance, but at least Dowell is recruiting at a high-level.

Commitment or signed?
We have been here before. Not dissing DLo. Great commit. I hope he gets more ...
I have changed my thought process here and wait to celebrate after signing day... .even more lately... Been waiting until 1st day of classes to see who stayed to practice..
That is where we are at in CFB recruiting and squad make-up.

Wait until they make it to campus. A lot of movement before then.

I have been feeling this way for a while now. We just can't celebrate until they show up and actually play. The one thing we can, and should, celebrate is that Loggains is trying to correct a bad strategy from prior staff and instead sign bigger classes. I am hoping we sign 25 or more in this class. We still have to hit on their talent and character but signing a big class will help prevent so much dependence on the portal if we are accurate with it. We signed 23 one year and the rest it was in the 17-19 range so seeing his effort to get a bigger class is welcomed for sure.

Just saw that UCF just flipped a highly rated QB from JMU.

Good. Hope they flip the whole frigging team. At least that dude won't have to worry about snowballs being thriwn by the mean old AppState fans. Chesney and crew should be happy for him.

Assume with JMU's coach probably heading out that they may lose some, but that doesn't seem to affect them as much as us.

The graphic on the announcement tweet says committed.

They have a different strategy. It seems to work.

Obviously Maryland offers greater initial NIL and the allure of big 10, but imo if he wanted to bet on himself he would come to App which has a wide open 2026 qb race whereas Maryland will have an entrenched starter.
Ball out here for 2 years then really cash in like JA to become a highly paid P2 starter or start on the bench and have to transfer down to g6 anyway to get a starter role and then maybe it works out.
Oh well

13 of 19 transfer were FCS or D2. Only 3 P4 transfers.

Most to all of these kids think they are betting on themselves even at P4 schools with an established starter, they think that they are the exception and will prove themselves and get playing time. That is where adult guidance is supposed to come in, problem is that many of the adults are just as delusional. Not saying he can't go there and start as a freshman, I don't really know his ability, but Maryland does have a current freshman QB that has done well and everyone believes is the future of the program.

I assume we will look for another QB in the portal to compete with Kohl if he is still here.

Tangent side note, but Maryland OC Pep Hamilton played QB at West Charlotte five years after Steve Wilks.

Given those offers I doubt we were ever in it , despite his” commitment “.

Think some higher end recruits use smaller school commitments to push the bigger schools offers?

I hope so. We do not have the qb who is going to take us to a conf champ.

Honestly this ain’t awful. The one comment we seem to all agree on is we need a mobile qb. Maybe now we can commit to recruiting a true dual threat.
