Is this the worst hire in App State history? ...maybe the softball coach from 3-4 cycles ago was worse...maybe!?
Billy Jones would like a word.
Capel.
Fox.
I felt like Capel & Fox were understandable choices. Capel was a young assistant on a successful team. He had been a top flight player and came from a coaching family. Fox took the job no one wanted. Billy Jones was definitely a bad hire. I'm signing my name to this take, DLo will go down as the worst hire in App State sports history. Everts will forever be the worst hire in our university's history.

Nah. Capel had like 1 year experience as an assistant coach. He was hired by a tarhole, he was forced on us by a booster hole lover, at least from what I understand the family has redeemed themselves. It was an embarrassing hire with expected consequences.

Loggains may not work out but he has 100000000000000000x the resume capel had.

Interesting. I don’t know anyone that hates him.Or his guts.
Yeah idk if I’ve ever met Boonegoon. I know about half a dozen or so dudes who hate DL with a passion, and if I ranked them as to how big of App fans they are vs how much they despise DL, it’s the same list. Then there’s the shit I read on here/twitter/the BGP Facebook group.

Anecdotal and obviously internet =\= reality but yeah it all led to my sense that loads of our biggest fans intensely hate him personally.

I’m glad you have an open mind and I hope my gauge on this is wrong.

I’ve never had a bad experience when engaging with DLo. He’s always willing to give you some time and ends every conversation with “I appreciate you.” That’s not to say that he hasn’t rubbed some people the wrong way with some tunnel vision or ignoring them. That being said, my understanding is that he has grown some in the engagement with folks.

They are really sad people because there is no reason to hate Loggains. I don't know anyone personally who says they can't stand him. They just want to him to win more. I feel like if Shawn was given 5 years that Loggains should at least get 3 years before any change is considered. I feel like we need to give him a fair chance. If he was a jerk I would want him gone but he really is a nice guy.

Some hate towards DLo is the equivalent of hating the firefighter for not putting out an arson’s fire quick enough. Misplaced blame in my opinion.

Perhaps it’s frustration being taken out on the head man? I do know people that were frustrated, are frustrated. We could make a list of reasons right ? Heck I get frustrated when we don’t “ throw strikes “. And don’t block out , miss layups, drop passes….but I have to say he has been attentive and self deprecating when we have talked one on one. He knows he has to win and sooner rather than later. He also knows he volunteered for the opportunity to lead a program that has high expectations. I hope he gets it done.

Not trying to start an argument, I respect everyone’s opinion, but I actually thought Sheri Everts did a fine job. Always extremely friendly to me when I met here.

It is ironic isn’t it? Everts wanted to replace the football coach, the “bad boys” video came out and everyone turns on the chancellor, only for the football coach to be replaced as well a year later.

Not defending DL here but it’s a tough ask to put a driver into a car with a bad engine and ask him to go win the Daytona 500. Some SC fans down here were happy to see him go then after the Mike Shula debacle, a few were pining to have him back. You literally never know with G5 hires. Somehow JMU has nailed it three hires in a row and that’s infuriating. Maybe Napier succeeds there too and that will sting even more. But when players are constantly hitting the portal for fairly insignificant reasons and you’ve got to construct a roster quickly, I don’t envy the coaches anymore. Tougher gig than it’s ever been.

In regards to the preseason, I'm excited to have Colton Phares back. With him and DJ running the show on defense, I expect to see a massive improvement. I know our Dline is thin, but I feel like we've said that every year since we've been in FBS.

It wasn't that long ago that we dominated preseason awards and polls, as well as the game on the field. I don't know if we'll ever see that dominance again from this program in today's minor league professional college football landscape.

Against our peers we need to do better, it's just that simple.

I under estimated three things that greatly affected last season:
1. How deep the rebuild would be - I did not realize just how poor the recruiting was for this level in seasons before DLo. This created issues when injuries came up and not many were capable of filling in.
2. How difficult it is to manufacture team chemistry - App was not a team last year. I did not realize how difficult it would be to keep existing players mentally committed and to get newcomers to buy in. It was evident as the season went along that a significant amount of players did not want to be here.
3. How bad Charlotte was - The game at BofA gave many a false sense of reality. The team peaked in week one and that’s not a recipe for success.

I believe significant changes have been made to address points 1 and 2. We will find out point 3 in the season.

When I walked out of BofA stadium last year I asked the question is App back or is UNCC the worst FBS team in the nation. The latter was correct.

1. Who are all these people that seem to be hanging out with DL enough to know if they like him personally or not? Does it matter? I'm fine with a coach who can win games but isn't super personable.

2. He's got 3 years IF we see improvement this year. With the transfer portal what it is now, Loggains can get talent quickly. He doesn't need to win conference, but anything worse than 6-6 is firable, IMO.

I think DLo is a good guy if you have the opportunity to get to know him, which most fans don't. I had the chance to meet Colton Phares over the summer, 4 year App guy which is unusual and what a great ambassador for our program. He seemed sincere in praising DLo.

However, if DLo starts the sideline antics again of not being into the game and spending time during the game with his kid and other random people instead of the players, the fans won't support him. Me included. Kind of a "do your job" thing.

I can't stand the evil witch and it has nothing to do with football or any team for that matter.
