The men's soccer squad faces off against High Point tonite in its third and last exhibition match of the early season after opening wins at home against Lees McRae (3-0) and on the road against VMI (4-1). The Apps have been led, so far, by junior forward Stan Broaden (Wilmington Ashley) and true frosh attacking defender Zach Joens (Asheville High). Joens, in fact, scored the hat trick in the match with the Keydets.
This season's Mountaineer squad is one of the youngest in recent memory, but the first two matches don't tell us much. High Point brings a talented and fully funded squad to Ted Mackorell Field tonite. We should learn more from this tilt. The Panthers are expected to be led by junior import forward Mamadee Nyepon (Ivory Coast, West Africa) and a horde of freshmen in the nation's 24th best recruiting class (per COLLEGE SOCCER NEWS). Despite this being the Panthers' first match, it will be a stout test for ASU.
ASU will kick off the regular season next Friday night on the home pitch against the T'ing Herd of Marshall.
