I know that this has been rehashed on here a good bit... and I'm sorry to start another thread on the topic. I know that there isn't an easy fix for Kidd Brewer and it will remain this way for the foreseeable future.

However, I saw a really interesting graphic ranking the FBS stadiums by the distance from the sideline to the stands at the 50 yard line.

And, as this topic also pertains to our opponent on Saturday, I wanted to see how KBS and WGS compared.



Kidd Brewer Stadium (~24 yards) would rank nearly at the bottom -- ahead of only San Diego State, Buffalo, and Duke.

Montana would be either at the top or very close to the top -- I can't get much of a difference between T. Boone Pickens Stadium and Washington Grizzly Stadium on Google Earth at the 50's.

One big difference between Washington Grizzly Stadium and T. Boone Pickens Stadium is the famous "North Endzone" in Montana -- it is almost a full yard closer (~4.5 yards) to the field than the closest endzone seats at T. Boone Pickens Stadium -- AND it maintains that distance across the entire endzone, whereas T Boone Pickens' endzone seats bow (and the other endzone is NOT enclosed at T Boone Pickens).

We might rate low on it but I don't know that it's an important stat. Kind of like ranking stadiums by their height above sea level. I bet we would do good on that one but I don't know that it would make for a better viewing, fan experience, etc. Interesting but not important.

I think it's a useless stat because if the distance from the sidelines were important all the club and box seats would stick out on a platform right over the sidelines. In most stadiums the primes seat are way back and high.

Not criticizing you for posting it, just questioning if it something important to rank a stadium on.

I don't think seats closer to the sidelines make for better sight-lines or anything. I think it makes for a louder and more intimidating crowd. It's the major reason Montana's stadium is so difficult -- the fans are right on top of you -- especially in the North Endzone.

Put a student section 4 yards away from an endzone and that side of the field becomes much more difficult to score on. IMO.

The temp stands in the north endzone did us proud last year. Lots of activity and noise from a majority student population. I'd love to see folks that close all around KBS one day.

Talking purely about noise: Unless your student sections are the front-most section, you might as well add the distance of the seating closest to the field as well. Most of the time, the alums aren't making any noise.

We have a pretty good record at home despite the sideline distance for whatever it's worth. I'm all for removing the track and getting the fans closer. But I think the whole concept is overrated and gives fans' egos a stroke.

All I'm saying is having an entire sideline of student section and having >50% of the front seating sections as student sections is why KBS is so damn loud despite having the track taking up space. You could have a stadium with seating 4' from the field on all four sides, but if it isn't students in those sections, it matters little for noise.

Nah you only have me by a few years.

Of course alums (especially young, good looking alums like us) make good noise. I'm just saying that atmosphere hinges on students. I believe that student section placement is more of a factor than side line to stands distance,

Marked it off last night Montana has 7 yards on the sideline. It is very tight.
