App and Georgia Southern not eligible for the coaches' poll this year.
I have read that there are several voters in the SportsNetwork poll who will not include App or GSU on their ballots this year, even though both teams are eligible for that poll.
Thus, the polls mean absolutely nothing to either of us this year. We just need to go out and win.

I was not aware of that, coach's poll that is. However, by seasons end I hope we finsish better than #21 in the Sports Network FCS poll, don't know if potential recruits pay attention to such things or not.

Now that I'm aware we are not eligible for the Coaches Poll, I couldn't care less either.

I'm not much in the habit of giving a flying flip about the opinions of others ... especially if I have no clue who they are or what they stand for. Early season football polls are a shining example of opinions I love to ignore.

I agree, even late season polls don't mean a whole lot. It's just like everything else, one person does one and everyone else mostly copies them.

This doesn't matter anymore.
When the 5 Super Conferences and Networks realign their money cartel again, maybe we can build our program with 85 scholarships and compete for a National Championship with all the leftover conferences on a lower tier. For now rankings are over with.
Nothing will have changed, we will still be among the bastard children of college football, just with more than 63 scholarships. However, it'll still be better than playing where we are currently. We just have to wait until this evolves around us over the next few years.

The only reason I'll look at that poll is to see where Montana is ranked. Hopefully it will be #1 at the end of the year. Awesome fan base in Missoula!

Good point DU. They're hardly more than popularity polls.
Having said that, FWIW, I think Montana should have been ranked much higher than 18th if these polls are going out at all. They may be the best team we face this year on the road....other than Gawja of course.
