Ed Hardin's take

Unread post by hapapp » Sun Sep 08, 2013 12:41 pm

Pretty brutal. They are a lot of people happy to see us struggle. I guess some folks think we are too big for our britches because we have decided to make some changes. I hope the day comes when the second guessing stops.

Two questions:

Did we boo our own players?

Was Ed Hardin even there? I assumed he was at least 1/2 if not fully up the arse of the Tarheels on Saturday. This being the local team he might have came along to Boone, but I was assuming he would ignore the Aggies for the ACC teams as is usually the case.

Ed is a red neck writer that has tried to learn to be "cute" over the last 13 or so years. He used to write this type "$hi*" back in the hockey days of the Greensboro Generals. I only wish you could read the PRINT article on front page of sports. It makes the one hapapp references look tame. He REALLY did his homework on this one---NOT!. As somebody said... Ed is a complete HACK!!!! Hope Charlie Atkinson will lay into him. Ed is SUPPOSED to be a professional.

I did hear a smathering of boos at the end of the first half.

It seems he just relished in piling on. Let's face it, there is a cottage industry of folks wanting to see us fail.

He should check his facts. The students actually stuck around. It was the others that bailed. Anyway, who cares. He's a guy whose career is predicated on criticizing those who do. What has he 'done'?

I don't know Ed Hardin, and can't think of a single reason why I should care what this idiot has to say. Looks to me like he had some cute quips ready to plug in whenever App stumbled. It was bound to happen eventually. Team lose....sometimes when they shouldn't.

This guy isn't worth a resentment. Let's work hard, fix some problems and start playing like we are capable. A&T should be just as insulted as we are by this piece of crap. He shows no respect for anyone.

I get the News and record. I am old school and really look forward to a paper each morning. Heck I wish I could get a morning and evening paper. However for some reason the Burlington paper dropped off free copies this morning in McLeansville, I guess to drive some subs. I ended up reading the Burlington paper but need to get to the Greensboro paper this evening.

The booing is disappointing. No need to boo our own.

Read his twitter feed. A sports writer using #NotreadyforDI while talking about App is not worth my time.

Writing this is our worst loss ever clearly demonstrates Mr. Hardin is as ill informed as his account. Try a loss to winless VMI Ed, but then again you probably don't now about that do you.

I will throw you a bone Ed the only thing you were correct about was the fact that going for 2 after our first score was an insult, I said those same words as the team was lining up for the attempt. IMHO it was a contemptuous act and I didn't like us doing that myself  .

I will concede that I'm one of the somewhat shocked ASU fans by the loss to A & T, but I'm proud enough not to boo my team--ever--and smart enough not to go and jump off a Parkway overlook. I was encouraged by the team's late comeback last night. I feel almost certain that Coach Satterfield has given Jamal a fair chance to show that his knee and his psyche are ready for battle. Everyone has the answer to that now, and a personnel change at QB is both probable and warranted.

Jamal gave it his all--but he's just not ready. I'm really surprised that the team physicians signed off on him coming back so soon. Those who've never experienced either an ACL or MCL (or both) blowout have no clue how hard it is to recover--first from the actual injury and surgery--but also from the nagging fear of reinjury. It truly is traumatic. I've been there with both of my knees and I feel for Jamal and the agony he's enduring. It's a shame for such a fine young man to be carrying this on his wide shoulders. I pray that with continued PT and practice repetition that he can regain his form in time to enjoy some of his senior season.

In the meantime, I think the team will rally around Kam Bryant and get back on track.

I'm of the opinion that we went the bargain basement route in filling several position coaching slots and that we're now seeing the result of those hiring decisions. I'd predict a couple of changes before spring practice 2014. I'm also of the opinion that the wheels have been off of our OL/DL recruiting since 2007. We never capitalized recruiting-wise on the Michigan win or the last two national championships as we should have. We're reaping the poor harvest of those missed opportunities now, as well.

Scott has to fix these issues sooner, rather than later. I think he will if Charlie Cobb will cut him some slack on salary dollars. Everyone remember how many OL coaches were offered our position, but eventually declined the offer, before we finally signed Coach Ledford? This has to end!

not sure why all the flames coming ed's way, pretty much sums it all up. We won a natty 6 years ago, A&t had a 1-9 season 3 yrs ago and last night they were the better team. This program has fallen a long way. No excuses. I think there needs to be reflection and introspection from players, former players, coaches, fans, students and friends of the program. This is a crucial time for this program and university and a more detrimental situation, I cannot think of. If we are not careful, we will dig a hole that will take years to climb from. We had recruits there last night, FBS recruits. What do you think their thoughts were?

Yes, people left in droves in the first half, Including students. Sat on the walkway up the hill from the west gate at halftime. Large, large numbers of students leaving.

Guys, time for excuses and rose colored glasses is long past. What happens from here?????

It's been coming for a while. A lot of people have seen it and pointed it out. Too many people have been willing to rest on past laurels rather than put in the work to maintain what we built. Failures in recruiting, poor coaching hires, lack of discipline on the field, it goes from the playing field all the way up through the athletic administration, it's all been building and now we are reaping those rewards.

There are always morons out there rooting for the guy on top to fail. We are, unfortunately, giving them that opportunity now. The test is how we weather this. I don't think the players will quit and I don't think the coaches will quit. Some of the so-called fans will quit; some already have. This is a test of the program's character.

Yes at the half the boos rang out. This is not the first time. Happened multiple times last year.

Is everyone upset with Hardin because of all the doom and gloom? Him writing off our season? The negativity in his article?

I will confidently say that there is more doom and gloom on this board than in his article. There is more negativity on this board than in his article. A lot of the posters on this board is writing off this season.

What does that say to me? I call it a double standard.

I get the News & Record, but I don't always read Ed Hardin's articles. He is a little wordy for me and a lot of the topics he writes about is not interesting to me.

But I've met Ed Hardin once. It was the year after I resigned as the boys' tennis coach at Page HS in Greensboro. That year, one of the current players, my former player, committed suicide after the start of the season. The very next home match, I was invited to attend a memorial honoring that player's life. Ed was there, I talked to him for a bit, and he wrote a spectacular article that was published the next day. I will always respect him for that.

As for the haters, let's look at ourselves and see what kind of image we are projecting before we start criticizing others for projecting the exact same image.

While the hate continues, I'll take the high road.

Sounds like he is good at writing obituaries. Unfortunately for him, App football isn't dead yet.
