Gut Check Time

Unread post by PhillyApp1 » Mon Oct 07, 2013 11:33 am

I am in and will be as loud as i ever am on Saturday !!

This team and future teams will have my support. If i could play i would help them on the field so WE are what we are 1-4.

I have been on the bottom in life before and know APP will see the SUN again.

I hope this thread and the whole team gets the support they need now more than ever.

And YES, i am drinking the Kool -Aid or something similar with a sharp coughing taste....;-)

I'm with you - this year's won-loss record means nothing in the big picture - it's the future we all should be looking/working toward ---

My signature is, in part, a quote we used as distance swimmers. When the going gets tough, the sprinters get out. Even though it's been ages since I either swam or coached, the thought process remains. I will always be a distance swimmer. The going has gotten tough; the sprinters are getting out. I, along with many other Mountaineer fans, will be staying in.

See you at The Rock this Saturday ... from BOD entrance to the Tennessee Waltz. Go App!

I am in this for the lifetime... Appalachian State football will come out of this. I was at The Citadel Saturday and, only being 8 rows behind the bench, I saw a lot of encouraging signs from our players. They NEVER quit and never pointed fingers at one another. I saw Jamal over on the sideline going up to the defense and encouraging them individually. I haven't had any kool-aid today but have a gut feeling that App puts together a a great game/gameplan against Samford Saturday. Time will tell if my gut feeling is right or wrong. I look foward to another beautiful Saturday in Boone and seeing my extended family! Either way you cut it/me I still bleed black & gold.

I believe this would be my brother's 35th reunion. I'm trying to get him to The Rock for the first time since he graduated. Maybe a few of you Gastonia Apps could help?

Philly, I am glad you started this thread. I had a few positive things to say after Saturday's game but there were no good threads to put them in! Thanks

1. Woody was in the press box for Saturdays game and I saw a difference in the organization of the defense and the responsiveness/communication after each possession.
2. I think the communication between the offensive guys is getting better.
3. While not on every possession but I thought the line play was better.
4. The kids never gave up. There was obvious support from each other and the fans although "quiet" to start the second half responded well to the players asking for support.
5. The holding call on Washington was totally crap from the Back Judge who was 30 yards behind the play when neither the side judge not the head linesman saw anything wrong with the stalk block he was executing.
6. We have some tough kids, Kam, Law, Tony, Cox, Anderson, Bronson,
7. If you are a fan....you just have to feel for JLJ!

Things I would like to see more/some of:
1. One (1) play where we lined the quarterback under center in short yardage with TWO "backs" in the backfield.
2. If you KNOW your ONLY running back needs a transfusion, he gets in line ahead of EVERYONE else and gets his fluids first. Cox missed 8 minutes of the second half getting a transfusion. Walker and Anderson both beat Cox out of the locker room.

Some Things we just have to keep in mind.
1. We are thin at QB and if Kam gets hurt we are going to have to have JJ who is obviously not the same player he was or Hallock play unless we want to burn a redshirt.....Please NO burning!
2. At RB we are thin and have to decide if burning a redshirt just is going to happen. After Cox right now we are in trouble.
3. Saturday, since Woody was in the box he was able to "pull the string" on players out of position, or in poor technique immediately. (Part of the learning curve)....There were many substitutions where a play occured, a player was substituted a headset was handed to him and he went back in, or he was just talked to and sent back in. I thought Walton and Gilchrist were going to wear out their cleats for a while just running on and off the field.

Thanks again Philly!

I am in this FOREVER! Appalachian State University is MY university and the MOUNTAINEERS are my team!

good post 81 ---

a few additional points -
- in Saturday's game 4 of the 6 top tacklers were freshmen - another was a soph --- and that list doesn't include Deuce nor Blair
- our 3 "stars" on offense are a freshman (Cox) and 2 sophs (Price and Kam) - all OLs and backups are all back next year as well as solid receivers ---
A lot of talent coming back and coming in ---

I was talking with Deuce's dad before the game. Deuce had hurt his shoulder and his dad wanted to watch him in warm-ups to be sure he was exploding out of a stance like he should. It sounded like he was 95% instead of 100%.

Kam was definitely dinged up a bit in the game though he seemed to bounce back ok.

JLJ is working hard to continue to be a leader even though he isn't starting. It's tough. Gotta be sure we give him the support to finish strong either as the QB on the field or the captain on the sidelines. His leadership is immeasurable!

Peacock left the locker room Saturday with an iced knee. Probably nothing but worth noting. Washington took a major hit to the ribs and still managed to come back. That kid is beyond tough.

Blalock plays better where he is this year. He definitely plays with heart.

Matics was also getting his kicks out of the endzone.

Small isn't small.

Yes, there are things that need to improve. Isn't that true of all of us? Let's get behind these kids and finish strong.

Small was a huge positive vs. Citadel, being able to move Bronson to DE will pay dividends.

I'm going to have to meet you, if I haven't already. You happen to be around me a lot. I spoke to Peacock after the game (behind the fence) and he appears fine. You are so point on with what you just posted.

The pleasure would be mine. I've had the privilege of being at every game this year and, Lord willing, will be at all of the rest of them. If you happen to walk through the stadium lot on your way into the Rock, stop by #76 (row closest to the stadium, we face toward Belk/Frank) and introduce yourself.

Go App!
