JP Caruso has a cannon for an arm and can keep a cool head while scrambling in the pocket and looking for a receiver.
As we all knew Tacoi Sumler has some speed.

To me that will be the most interesting position battle this fall, how did Byrant and Lamb look?

Lamb was hurt and didn't play. Bryant looked smoother moving but was back to throwing off the back foot on deep balls and was floating them. Was hoping he had got away from that at the end of last season. They've got some work to do with him there. Otherwise he looked pretty good but he's GOT to get better with deeper throws. Was VERY impressed with Caruso. He didn't look like a kid that's still supposed to be in high school. He made a few mistakes but he's a true freshman that's been here for 3 months. Loved his passion and energy.

I would be very surprised if Kam didn't start at Michigan, but he better get his mechanics in order if he wants to keep the job all season. Caruso was very impressive for a Freshman, and I've been hearing a lot of good things about Lamb as well. I like Kam, but he has to get better. Upshaw looked very good until the injury, and Sombo made some nice aggressive plays at OLB. It's hard to tell too much with so many guys out though. Both lines still need a lot of work.

Agree 100 percent, Bryant can't keep throwing off his back foot, just doesn't have the arm strength to get away with it, plus the level of competition is going to greatly increase, he tries that against Michigan and the SBC, he will lead the nation in picks. Hate that Lamb is hurt, I'm sure the coaching staff would like to get him as many reps as possible, but really glad to see the freshman played well, been awhile since we had a qb with a really strong arm

Great to see Sumler have a great day, I know it's just the Spring game, but with everything he has gone thru the last 2 years, you got to love his heart and determination, quickly turning into my favorite player, hoping for a big year.

Lamb got popped in a practice recently as he didn't have a red jersey.

The offensive line was much improved. They were giving the QB a chance and made all the backs look good.

There was some chippiness from Malachi of all people near the end.

Offense won 75-74, which was a bit of a surprise considering how defense dominated all of spring practice.

I have never claimed to be particularly good at evaluating the team in scrimmage situations, but my overall impression is that 1) yes, we have some work to do before heading up to Ann Arbor, and 2) We are WAY ahead of the performance from last year's spring game.

It should be interesting to see the steps we take once everyone is back from injury and the incoming class is on campus. I'm feeling pretty good about things.

Great to see Sumler back on the field. Fernandez is going to be a beast in the middle.

It is evident that we are missing Tony and Andrew. I think they could always get open and catch the difficult ball. They made a QB look good. My biggest fear is that we will see a drop off there this year. I know we have some good young guys coming in the fall but you can't rely on freshmen to play like seniors.

I was impressed overall with the running game. We know Marcus can break the long one but like everyone else I was anxious to see Upshaw and he didn't disappoint. I also thought Davidson looked like a really good third back in the time he was in there.

I think Scott has realized these as well and we will see more of a focus on the running game and use of the TE and RB in the passing game.

Interesting that Brentlee is kicking FGs too. That guy is a weapon.

Also Tyson at DT is a monster.

Critcher was booming the ball 50 plus yards with serious hang-time on his punts. We are very lucky that we have him for another 3 years.

Fernandez will be nice at DT, and once Small gets back we could have a very nice duo there. Upshaw looked very good in his time out there, he finishes every single run with a purpose. Davidson looked solid but he had ball control issues.

Kam was solid and has improved a good bit. However, his throwing still leaves much to be desired. He does not have the arm strength of Caruso or Lamb. I know Lamb did not play yesterday but this is what I have heard from practices.

Observations

Carouso looked surprisingly cool and can sling it.
Cox is ready.
O-line looked better but there were times our QB would have been killed.
Agree about the receivers.
D looked good most of the time.
Not a fan of the loud music being played all during the game.

There's no question losing Peacock and Washington leaves the cupboard a little bare.

If Sumler stays off the PuP he will have a break out year and we have some help on the way in the Fall, ableit Freshman, but Meadors will probably contribute right away as well.

Everyone else is solid: Beathard, McElfresh, Jones + the TEs will be solid.

I'm excited we can run some two back sets, that will really help open up the playbook. Hope Upshaw's non-return to the game last night was just precautionary.

Agree about Fernandez (beastly).

Can anybody tell me if we looked more physical?
ie like the players are building bulk muscles !!

I think this will be the single deciding factor in our season this year.

I'm very excited to hear about Sumler after all he's been through. You can't teach that speed if he can just stay on the field. I'm pulling like crazy for him. Our 3-headed RB attack is gonna be tough. I'm looking forward to getting back to a more balanced attack. I'm concerned about the size & depth of our receivers. Didn't like Scott's quote about being thin in the secondary when we're facing some of these Sun Belt teams that like to throw it all over the lot. #24 looks like a player. Overall things sound a lot better than last Spring though.
