Sorry to be ignorant, but can anyone fill me in on what happened to Anthony Covington? I was very excited about him but don't see him listed on the roster or see any reason why he would be gone. Thanks for any information you guys can give.

He's a goner. A while back, he tweeted something about having enough of being a mountain man. Not sure if it was the weather, losing season, or wanting to be closer to home. Not sure of his future plans, but others may have more recent info. Regardless, he won't be a Mountaineer.

Based on a coaching friend of mine....there was a not lot behind Anthony's not liking App. At least that is what he is saying around Mallard Creek.

Based on a friend of mine that went to Campbell....it sounds like Milhouse is headed there for sure too.

It always amazes me that a player given a free education at a wonderful University, great chance to contribute on the field, cant "suck it up for 4 years" and stay because they don't like being there, hell, its not even 4 years, I bet actual time on campus is less than 3. I remember my dad warning me before my freshman year, that being homesick was not a reason to quit collage. Any way, also got a question, wasn't Millhouse seen standing on the sidelines with the team during the Spring game? Alot of people including myself took this as a positive sign he was back with the team.

I don't know any details, just what it says on the tweet.

He didn't fit in culturally in a small town.

I believe if any kid at any school should be thrilled to be at any school athlete or not. If they aren't they should go where they will enjoy the experience. I hate to lose a kid like AC but it's his life not mine and I wish him well even at UNCC.

If he hated a fun college town he might fit right in at a culturally void commuter school. Different strokes for different folks.

I believe that since Charlotte is still an FCS Indy in 2014 that he can play immediately. They're a year behind us in the transition process because of the NCAA startup rules. They'll be FBS and play a CUSA schedule in 2015 but won't be bowl eligible.

I just read through the kid's twitter feed. He makes a point to make it seem like he didn't like the High Country. I'm sure a lot of that displeasure stems from the frustration of being a highly touted recruit out of high school and never sniffing the field at App State. Now we have a few more talented DBs coming in. Better to switch to a weaker program for the playing time. And better to put up a facade of being unhappy with the town than to admit you couldn't cut it.

Believe it or not some people just don't like snow, cold, and wind. Could he be one of those?

But if its one of those then there isn't a reason for Gonzo to spend his time looking through a teenagers twitter so he can find some reason to bash someone and be negative.

I looked through his feed to try to understand his motivations. The "reason to bash and be negative" came from following App Football.

If you're going to troll at least try and make sense.

The fact that he is at UNCC was sure to produce a negative review from Gonzo.

I would suggest it foolhardy to try and gain insight into someone's thinking by reviewing his social media. Perhaps, he didn't think he would beat out the talent already here and that which is coming in, but I fail to see the need to bash the kid simply because where he wound up.

I did make sense, but I'm not surprised at your response trying to rationalize your constant negativity then proceeding to make a demeaning/belittling remark.

The mountains aren't for everyone. Sometimes people just don't like it. We have kids that transfer in and out every year from all of our sports who just don't like the specific type of college experience they are getting at App or are just homesick. Some people get sold on the idea of a mountain school but then don't like the reality of it. There are a million reasons outside of sports why someone would want to change colleges. Simply being on a sports team doesn't make you any more immune to this things than anyone else who decides to transfer out or leave.
I wish the kid all the best at Charlotte.

I never bashed the kid. He never saw the field at App. That's just a fact.

So you join the thread with a demeaning remark about me, then admonish me later for "proceeding to make a demeaning remark."

I was just pointing out something that likely contributed to his decision that was yet to be mentioned in this discussion. I can almost guarantee you that some combination of these reasons led to his departure, not just the ones he might have given on twitter or the ones in your dogmatic post.

And negativity? Maybe you should choose a different word. Confrontational maybe? I'm one of the most optimistic people on the MMB.

I wish the kid luck as well. I hope he plays in 2018.

No, anyone that transfers to Charlotte for this season has to sit a year. Since we are over the scholarship limit for FCS, we don't technically qualify as FCS, but we also don't count as FBS.

We got transfers from UGA, UT, and Syracuse this year, but none of them are eligible to play.
